FOREST GROVE – After another match of no goals in regulation, freshman Kara Lankey (Fr.,  La Canada, Calif.) scored the golden goal for the Pacific women's soccer team to clip Howard Payne 1-0 on Monday afternoon in non-conference action.

With six minutes left to play in the second overtime period, a yellow card was issued to Howard Payne, allowing the Boxers to free kick from the top of the box. Lankey took the free kick to the back of the net, past Howard Payne's goalkeeper Adrienne Walker for her first career goal as a Boxer. Lankey led the Boxers with seven shots.

"Kara's goal was just breath-taking," said associate head coach Dane Joseph. "Unbelievable." Our hats are off to Kara, Ashley Park-Hunt and Emily Tuffey. Their work-rate and determination to make things happen resulted in 19 corner kicks and

The Boxers dominated on the offensive side of the ball as they tallied 27 shots to the Yellow Jackets' three. In the first half, the Boxers attempted eight times to score, but came up short. Their best opportunity came at the 40-minute mark when Emily Tuffey (Jr., Valencia, Calif.) shot, but was wide. Ashley Park-Hunt (Fr., Mililani, Hawaii) took a shot four minutes later but was blocked by the Yellow Jackets.

"Our hats are off to Kara, Ashley Park-Hunt and Emily Tuffey," said Joseph. "Their work-rate and determination to make things happen resulted in 19 corner kicks and 27 shots."

In the second half, the Boxers were aggressive with the ball, shooting 15 times. At the 58-minute mark, Lyndsey Watanabe (So., Waipuha, Hawaii) shot, but was blocked by Howard Payne.

The Boxers were hot on corner kicks, tallying 19 total. The Yellow Jackets collected one corner kick.

"Kaeli Laxson, Kamryn Plechot and Taylor Gillespie were brilliant out of the back today," Joseph said. "With 20 underclasswomen, it is important that they bring their leadership and experience to every game; and they certainly did so today."

Kayla Davidson (Sr., Kailua-Kona, Hawaii) (1-0-1) collected the victory between the pipes and recorded her first shutout of the season. The shutout marks Davidson's third career shutout. She collected one save. Adrienne Walker took the loss for the Yellow Jackets, tallying seven saves.

"We are very proud of how far we're come as a group in just two weeks," said Joseph. "The scoreline doesn't show it, but the stats sure do. Give credit to Howard Payne for hanging in there. Their keeper was the "woman of the match" in my opinion. But overall, a job well done today for us."
The Boxers (1-0-1) will continue non-conference action this weekend as they travel to Evergreen State on Sunday, Sept. 8. The match will begin at 2 p.m.
