FOREST GROVE – The Pacific men's soccer team scored the first goal of the game, but was not enough to outlast No. 7 Pacific Lutheran, suffering a 2-1 loss in Northwest Conference action on a stormy Sunday at Lincoln Park Stadium.

"We played great today," said head coach Jim Brazaeu. "If we keep playing like that, we are going to win a lot of games this year."

Ian Farley (Jr., Spokane, Wash.) sparked the Boxers' offense in the 57th minute. Both teams were in a bit of a scramble when Farley came up with the ball and shot to the back of the net past Lute goalkeeper Joe Rayburn.

Pacific Lutheran (7-0-1, 2-0-0 NWC) struck back with two goals to win the game. The tying goal came in the 73rd minute when Taylor Jackson received the ball off a corner kick that rebounded off a Pacific player and into his feet. He shot from 20 yards out to the top left corner of the goal. Lutes would score again in the 84th minute when Tyler Bennett got the ball on a breakaway and scored past Boxer keeper Michael Summers (Sr., Beaverton, Ore.)

Nick Rudella (Sr., Sammamish, Wash.), Jorge Mandujano (Sr., Forest Grove, Ore.) and Farley all had two shots apiece, accounting for six of the Boxers' seven shots. Summers (4-2-0) suffered the loss between the pipes, tallying five saves. Joe Rayburn collected his sixth win on the season, recording two saves.

The Boxers drop to a 5-3-0 overall record, 0-2-0 in the Northwest Conference. Next weekend, the Boxers will be on the road to eastern Washington, taking on the Whits. On Saturday, the Boxers will play Whitman and on Sunday they will play Whitworth. Both of the matches will begin at 2:30 p.m.
