Lutes Second Half Goal Forces Draw With Boxers

FOREST GROVE  - After another scoreless first half, the Pacific women's soccer team scored early in the second, but Pacific Lutheran came back to force a 1-1 draw in Northwest Conference action on a rainy Sunday afternoon at Lincoln Park Stadium.
 
After taking only one shot in the first half, the Boxers scored within two minutes of the start of the second, taking a 1-0 lead. After a foul on Pacific Lutheran, the Boxers gained possession for a free kick. Taylor Gillespie (Jr., Silverdale, Wash.) took the free kick to the center of the field that found Kara Lankey (Fr., La Canada, Calif.). Lankey headed the ball to McKenna Davidson (So., Kailua-Kona, Hawaii) who finished to the opposite corner of the goal for her fourth goal of the season.
 
Pacific Lutheran (2-2-2, 0-0-1 NWC) gained momentum later in the second half scoring the tying goal in 76th minute. Lauren Larson found an open Kaylie Rozell who finished past Boxer keeper Kayla Davidson (Sr., Kailua Kona, Hawaii).
 
Not much action occurred in overtime with both teams combining for three shots. In the first overtime period, the Boxers had an opportunity to win the game with a penalty kick after a Lute foul in the box. Emily Tuffey (Jr., Valencia, Calif.) took the kick for the Boxers, but hit the top post, going up and over the goal. Kaeli Laxson (Sr., Nampa, Idaho) took a shot in the 98th minute, but was saved by Lute keeper Takara Mitsui.
 
With the tie Kayla Davidson obtains at 3-1-2 record, tallying three saves. Pacific Lutheran start Marisa Gonzalez in the first half, collecting one save and Mitsui (0-0-1) tallied three saves. Ashley Park-Hunt (Fr., Mililani, Hawaii), Laxson and Lankey led the Boxers with two shots apiece. Lankey and Gillespie collected one assist.
 
The Boxers (4-1-2, 1-1-1 NWC) will travel to eastern Washington next weekend. On Saturday, the will take on the Whitman Missionaries, while on Sunday, the Boxers will play the Whitworth Pirates for more Northwest Conference action. Both of the matches will begin at noon.
