SPOKANE, Wash. – Kara Lankey's (Fr., La Canada, Calif.) two second half goals lifted the Pacific women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Whitworth on a windy afternoon in Northwest Conference action at the Whitworth soccer fields.

"We worked harder than rock today," said associate head coach Dane Joseph. "What really makes me excited is their (the players) attitude ever since yesterday. We were relaxed but focused; confident but not ego-driven."

The Boxers allowed Whitworth to score in the 17th minute of the first period. Off a throw in Megan McCart, DeNae Vandam flicked the ball onto Tiara Pajimola, who put the ball past Boxer goalkeeper Kayla Davidson (Sr., Kailua-Kona, Hawaii) to take a 1-0 lead.

With only taking three shots in the first period, the Boxers resurged at halftime and come back more aggressive on offense, tallying seven shots in the second period. Lankey sparked the Boxer offense and tied the game up at 1-1 in the 61st minute. Ashley Park-Hunt (Fr., Mililani, Hawaii) crossed to Lankey who would breakaway up the middle to shoot past Pirate keeper Andrea Stump, her sixth goal on the season.

"It's not just Kara's finishing that was so impressive," said Dane Joseph. "But the awareness of her teammates to find the perfect pass at the right times. A stellar performance from Kam, Ashley, Chandler, and Taylor today."

Lankey would supply the game-winner in the 67th minute. She tried once, but was denied by Stump, but came back five seconds later off a rebound and scored to the back of the net for her seventh goal on the season.

The Boxers played tough defense in the remainder of the second period, only allowing Whitworth to shoot twice. They came close in the 68th minute with a header shot by Megan McCart, but was saved by Kayla Davidson.

"What I really liked about our performance today was the fact that we strung together about 80 minutes of top quality football," said head coach Morgan Joseph. "Kara again showed why she is amongst the best; but it was an entire team effort here today."

Davidson (5-1-2) claimed the victory between the pipes, tallying three saves. Stump took the loss for the Pirates, collecting four saves. Lankey led the Boxers with five shots.

The Boxers improve to 6-1-2 overall and 3-1-1 in the Northwest Conference. Whitworth drops to 5-4-1 overall and 2-3-1 in the Northwest Conference. Next weekend, the Boxers will have one game, playing host to Lewis & Clark on Saturday, Oct. 5. The match will begin at noon. Live stats and video will be available at goboxers.com.
