FOREST GROVE – After surging to win the second and third sets, Pacific could not hold on in a 2 hour, 15 minute marathon volleyball match Wednesday night as the Boxers fell to Northwest Christian, 25-16, 24-26, 20-25, 25-16, 16-14, at the Stoller Center.

The Boxers recovered from a first set loss to take a close second set in extra points and rallied from a 4-0 deficit to win the third set by five points.  Northwest Christian, however, rallied to win the fourth set convincingly and then stole match point from the Boxers in the deciding frame, winning the final three rallies and the match.  It is the third time in five matches that Pacific has lost a match in five sets.

Marie Rewick (So., Honolulu, Hawaii) notched her third double-double of the season, leading the Boxers (0-5) with 23 kills and 19 digs.  Mariah McHolland (Sr., Renton, Wash.) added 13 kills to go along with four blocks.  Emily Farnham (So., University Place, Wash.) finished with 39 assists and Becky Sheller (So., Gresham, Ore.) had 26 digs.

Taylor Richardson led Northwest Christian (5-2) with 12 kills.  Maren Mansfield had a double-double of 10 kills and 14 digs while Chelsea McGowan added 10 kills and eight of the Beacons' 14 team blocks.  Setter Cori Wallace had a double-double of 43 assists and 12 digs while Dana McGowan led five Beacon players in double-digit digs with 15.

The Beacons came out strong in the opening set, registering 12 kills in the frame and building an 18-10 lead on Fetters' kill.  It became a 10-point lead at 21-11 on Alyssa Dorr's service ace and Richardson closed it our with a kill that secured the 25-16 win.

Pacific came out fired up in the second set, building a 4-0 lead thanks in part to a pair of Northwest Christian attack errors and a Kylee Oshiro (So., Aiea, Hawaii) service ace.  The Boxers built as much as a six-point lead before the Beacons came back to take a 22-19 lead on a pair of Pacific attack errors.  Pacific rebounded to take the lead back at 23-22 on another attack error, but the Beacons tied it at 24-24 on a Pacific service error.  A Beacons' attack error and a McHolland kill allowed the Boxers the 26-24 win.

In the third set, it was the Beacons that jumped out to a 4-0 lead thanks to three consecutive Pacific attack errors.  The Boxers rallied to tie the set at 8-8 on a Beacons' attack error and built a 12-9 advantage on another error.  Pacific returned the favor with two more errors that put the Beacons ahead 14-13, and things remained close until the Boxers pulled away from an 18-18 tie by winning eight of the final 10 rallies.  A Northwest Christian attack error gave Pacific a 23-19 lead while Farnham's dump and another attack error sealed the 25-20 victory.

After a close start to the fourth set, the Beacons surged to convincingly take the frame.  A 7-7 tie turned in a 14-9 Northwest Christian lead on a kill by Chelsea McGowan and became a 20-13 advantage on an attack error.  Dana McGowan's service ace and a kill by Cassidy Winters closed out the 25-16 win and forced the deciding set.

Pacific opened up a 5-2 lead in the fifth on three Beacons' attack error, but the visitors came back to force the 7-7 tie.  The Boxers kept the narrow lead and had set point at 14-13 before Richardson's kill tied it and forced extra points once again.  Mansfield followed with a kill while Winters and Richardson finished off the match with a block.

Pacific returns to the road on Saturday, playing New Hope Christian in Eugene, Ore., at 1 p.m.  Northwest Christian opens Cascade Conference play on Friday, hosting Oregon Tech.
