Boxers Use Second Half Surge To Outlast Owls

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. –
Kellan McNamara (So., Missoula, Mont.) scored the game-winning goal in the second half to help the Pacific men's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over Oregon Tech on Saturday afternoon at Trevor Derrah Field.

At the 71-minute mark,
Nick Calkins (So., Hillsboro, Ore.) threw the ball in to McNamara, who headed the ball in between the pipes for his first goal of the season and first career goal, past Oregon Tech's goalkeeper Loren Jessen.Â

A minute late,
Nick Rudella (Sr., Sammamish, Wash.) scored his second goal on the season. Nick Kaminsky (Fr., Breves, Brasil) dribbled to the baseline and crossed to Rudella who was in the middle to shoot to the back of the net.

Oregon Tech (0-3) scored the first goal of the match at the 28-minute mark. Jimmie Hernandez found and open Nathan Wade, who took a long ball past Boxer goalkeeper Mike Summers (Sr., Beaverton, Ore.)

The Boxers tied the game at 1-1 after a goal by
Ian Farley (Jr., Spokane, Wash.), his fourth goal on the season. Calkins threw a long ball into the box and Farley headed the ball to the right corner of the goal.

Zach Cohen (Sr., Grafton, Calif.) collected the win between the pipes. He started the second half after Summers played the first. Both Cohen and Summers tallied two saves. Loren Jessen took the loss for the Owls, recording one save.

Rudella led the Boxers with two shots, while Calkins led the team with two assists.

The Boxers (4-0) continue non-conference action next week. They will play Walla Walla (Wash.) again next weekend on Sept. 15 at Walla Walla (Wash.). The match begins at 3 p.m. The Boxers will return home for their finals non-conference match on Sept. 17 against UC Santa Cruz. The match starts at 2 p.m.
