Boxers Suffer Loss To Nationally Ranked Bruins

NEWBERG, Ore. – The Pacific women's basketball team took an 11-1 in the first five minutes of the game, but could not hold off undefeated nationally ranked George Fox, suffering a 78-48 loss in Northwest Conference action on Saturday night at the Wheeler Sports Center.

The first five minutes of the game showed positive strides for the Boxers in the first five minutes against No. 8 George Fox.
Sarah Curl (Fr., Portland, Ore.) sparked the Boxer offense with a layup to take a 2-1 lead early. Curl and
Nani Ostrom (Jr., Juneau, Alaska) made back-to-back treys to take a 7-1 lead at the 17:12 mark. Curl put the Boxers ahead by eight before
Olivia Cook (Jr., Beaverton, Ore.) put the Boxers up 11-1 at 14:42.

In the next 10 minutes, the Boxers saw their lead fade away. With 11:24 left in the half, the Bruins brought themselves within 1, as the Boxers did not score until the 7:14 mark. The Bruin expanded their lead to 11 with 3:09 left. The Boxers brought themselves back within nine after a made layup from
Kati Sheldon (Sr., Paso Roble, Calif.), but the Bruins took the game from their, leading at halftime 37-20.

In the second half, the Bruins came out and scored seven points before the Boxers could get their offense going. With the Bruins leading 44-20, Curl hit a jumper at 17:58 and 30 seconds later, knocked down two free throws. George Fox expanded their lead to 24 at 16:13 and neither team scored for the next two minutes. The Bruins took control of the rest of the game and their biggest lead came with 45 seconds left, leading by 30 points.

Curl led the Boxers with 14 points and five rebounds. She was 6 of 8 from the field and 2 of 2 from the free throw line. Curl also picked up two assists. Cook added 12 points and grabbed a team high seven rebounds. Cook was 4 of 9 from the field and perfect, in four attempts, at the charity stripe.
Alex Pfefferle (Sr., Twin Falls, Idaho) picked up five assists. The Boxers shot 30.4 percent from the field, just 19 percent from beyond the arc and 71.4 percent from the free throw line.

George Fox (13-0, 4-0 NWC) shot 51.7 percent from the field, 30 percent from beyond the arc and 75 percent from the free throw line. Justine Benner led the Bruins with 14 points, making 6 of 8 from the field and 2 of 3 from the free throw line. Jordyn Peacock grabbed a team high eight rebounds.

The Boxers drop to 4-8 on the season and are still looking for their first victory in conference. The Boxers will be on the road next Friday at Lewis & Clark and will return home on Saturday to take on Pacific Lutheran. Both tip offs will start at 6 p.m.
