Boxers Late Rally Isn’t Enough To Get Past Pios

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Pacific women's basketball team came back in the second half with a late rally, but wasn't enough to get past a tough Lewis & Clark squad, suffering a 73-63 loss in Northwest Conference play on Friday evening at Pamplin Sports Center.
Olivia Mayorga-Overtone (Jr., Oakland, Calif.) led the Boxers in scoring with 15 and in rebounds with five. She was 4 of 8 from the field, 1 of 3 from three-point range and perfect, in six attempts, from the free throw line. She also forced four steals.
Olivia Cook (Jr., Beaverton, Ore.) was right behind with 14 points and four rebounds. She was 5 of 11 from the field and 4 of 4 from the free throw line. She also picked up two assists.
The Boxers outshot the Pios from the field with 51.1, was behind with 35.7 percent from three-point range, The Boxers were perfect at the free throw line in 12 attempts. Lewis & Clark shot 43.4 percent from the field, 51.9 percent from beyond the arc and 68.4 percent from the charity stripe.
Early in the first half, the Boxers saw themselves get behind quickly as the Pioneers led 18-8 in the first 10 minutes of the game. At the 11:26 mark, a made three-point from Mayorga-Overtone put the Boxers within seven, but Lewis & Clark took the rest of the half and led 49-30 going to the locker rooms.
Lewis & Clark started to spark their offense again in the second half, leading the Boxers by 21 at the 13:08 mark, but the Boxer began to creep their way back into the game with Cook's jumper to start their offense. Two jumpers from
Abby Jones (Jr., Haines, Alaska), a pair of free throws from
Kaila Johnson (Jr., McKinleyville, Calif.) and a layup from Mayorga-Overtone put the Boxers within 11 with seven minutes left to play.
Allie Wipf (Jr., Fortuna, Calif.) sunk a layup and a made jumper and three from
Alex Pfefferle (Sr., Twin Falls, Idaho) put the Boxers within seven with two minutes left in the game. The Boxers began the fouling strategy to gain possession of the ball, but Lewis & Clark free throws secure their victory.
The Boxers drop to 4-9 on the season and are still looking for their first victory in NWC play. Lewis & Clark improve to 8-6 on the season and 3-2 in the NWC.
