Lady Boxers Take Home Win Against Willamette

SALEM, Ore. – The Pacific women's swimming team took control of the entire swim meet, claiming a 140-62 win over Willamette, while the men suffered a 105-95 loss to the Bearcats on Friday evening in Northwest Conference action.
 
The women took control early, winning the 400-yard medley relay to start the meet with a time of 4:15.06. Amanda Clark (Jr., Olympia, Wash.) won her two events. She finished the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:58.94. Melissa Lund (Jr., Roseburg, Ore.) picked up second place in a time of 12:09.64. Clark also finished first in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:25.05.
 
Katie Porter (Jr., McMinnville, Ore.) finished first in her two events. Her first event of the evening, she swam a 25.89 in the 50-yard freestyle. She swam a 54.96 in the 100-yard freestyle, her last event of the evening. Kristine Valdez* (Sr., Poulsbo, Wash.) picked up a victory in the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 2:18.79. Rachel Webster (Fr., Normandy Park, Wash.) also tallied two victories, swimming a 2:18.40 in the 200-yard butterfly and a 2:22.10 in the 200-yard individual medley. Alex Bing* (Sr., Forest Grove, Ore.) led the Boxers with a first place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:34.26.
 
On the men's side, the Boxers were coming off a tie with Willamette at the NWC Invite and looking for a rematch. The meet was close as Willamette was leading the Boxers 92-91 with just one event left. But the Bearcats took first and third place in the 400-yard freestyle relay to secure the victory.
 
Michael Hargitt* (Sr., Oregon City, Ore.) picked up a first place victory in the 200-yard individual medley, swimming the race in a time of 2:01.95. Charles Morse (Fr., Forest Grove, Ore.) led the Boxers with three first place finishes, starting with the 1,000-yard freestyle in a time of 10:22.82. He swam a 2:01.27 in the 200-yard butterfly and a 5:10.52 in the 500-yard freestyle.
 
Spencer Chandler* led the Boxers in the 50-yard freestyle with a first place finish in a time of 23.64. Carter Suzuki (Fr., Wailuku, Hawaii) picked up the Boxers last first place finish of the evening in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:17.98.
 
The women improve to 5-3 on the season and 2-3 in NWC action. The men drop to 1-6-1 on the season and 0-5 in conference action. The Boxers will return to their home crowd tomorrow morning, playing host to the Linfield Wildcats. The first race will begin at 11 a.m.
