Boxers Struggle From The Field Against Lutes

FOREST GROVE – A tough shooting night for the Pacific women's basketball team puts them behind from the get-go, suffering a 63-46 loss to Pacific Lutheran in Northwest Conference action on Saturday evening at the Stoller Center.

The Boxers shot 32.2 percent (19 of 59) from the field for the game and couldn't quite get their consistent offense in the groove. They shot 16.7 percent from beyond the arc (4 of 24) and just 36.4 percent (4 of 11) from the free throw line in which they are usually at 70 percent or higher. The Boxers outrebounded the Lutes 39-35, but turned the ball over 14 times to the Lutes eight.

Olivia Mayorga-Overtone (Jr., Oakland, Calif.) led the Boxers with her first double-double of the season, scoring 16 points and grabbing 10 rebounds off the bench. She was 6 of 12 from field, 2 of 6 from 3-point range and 2 of 4 from the charity stripe.
Olivia Cook (Jr., Beaverton, Ore.) added eight points and eight rebounds. She was 4 of 10 from the field.

The Boxers had a slow start to the beginning of the game scoring just four points in the first 10 minutes of the game before
Sarah Curl (Fr., Portland, Ore.) made a layup to break their dry streak. The Lutes increases their lead to 23 in the final two minutes of the half, but
Abby Talboy (So., Boise, Idaho) came off the bench and sunk a three-pointer to bring the Boxers within 20, heading into the locker rooms for halftime.

The second half proved to be the same concept for the Boxers as they were still looking for the consistency on the offensive side of the ball. With 6:51 left to play in the game Mayorga-Overtone made a layup to bring the Boxers within 13. The Lutes would score on free throws for their next three points before Mayorga-Overtone cut their lead to 55-42 with a made trey. The Boxers didn't have a chance of coming back within 10 after the Boxers fouled in the final minutes to gain possession, but the Lutes sunk their free throws to keep the Boxers from getting close.

The Lutes shot 46.8 percent (22 of 47) from the field, 25 percent (2 of 8) from three-point range and 70.8 (17 of 24) from the free throw line. The Lutes also tallied 19 assists and five steals to go along with 35 rebounds.

The Boxers drop to 4-10 on the season and 0-6 in the Northwest Conference. The Lutes improve to 6-9 on the season and 2-4 in the NWC. Next weekend, the Boxers will play host to Puget Sound on Friday and will travel to Linfield on Saturday. Both of the tip offs will start at 6 p.m.
