BOXERS LOOK FOR STABILITY AS 1ST HALF OF LEAGUE SLATE ENDS
While showing some strong signs of improvement against Lewis & Clark and Pacific Lutheran, the Pacific women's basketball team enters the end of the first half of the Northwest Conference schedule looking for their first league win.  The Boxers will aim to get the zero out of the win column with a home game on Friday against Puget Sound before traveling to Linfield on Saturday.

BOXER BYTES
• Pacific shot a season-best 51.1 percent from the field at Lewis & Clark on Friday, but the Pioneers used a 52 percent performance from three-point range to take a 73-63 victory from the Boxers.  Olivia Mayorga-Overtone led the Boxers off of the bench with 15 points.

• Pacific struggled to get their offense going all night in a return to the Stoller Center after a three-game road trip, shooting just 32.2 percent from the field in a 63-46 loss to Pacific Lutheran.  Olivia Mayorga-Overtone was the only Pacific player in double figures, finishing with her first double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds.

• Olivia Cook continues to lead the Boxers in many statistical categories.  The junior forward leads the Boxers with averages of 11.7 points and 7.1 rebounds per game.  She alsop ranks among the NWC's top-10 in free throw percentage, rebounding average, total rebounds. and offensive rebounds.

• Pacific enters the week as one of the top free throw shooting teams, ranking third in the NWC and 44th among Division III teams with a .730 free throw percentage.  Olivia Cook ranks fourth in the NWC and 72nd in Division III in free throw percentage (.841).

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
PUGET SOUND

The Loggers enter the week in fifth place in the NWC at 3-3 and are 10-5 overall after winning both contests last week at home.  In a rare Wednesday night game, Puget Sound scored a 70-51 victory over Pacific Lutheran.  The difference in the game was free throws and turnovers as the Loggers went 19 of 28 from the charity stripe and forced 21 Lutes' turnovers.  Erin Stumbaugh led three Puget Sound players in double figures with 15 points while Katy Ainslie had 12 rebounds.  On Friday, the Loggers cruised to an 80-52 victory over Willamette.  Puget Sound shot an impressive 55.7 percent from the field and took a 45-22 lead into halftime.  Amanda Forshay and Allie Wyszynski each scored 16 points to pace the Loggers.  Forshay leads Puget Sound with averages of 14.4 points and 6.8 rebounds per game.  She is shooting 47.8 percent from the field and 43.8 percent from three-point range.  As a team, the Loggers are averaging 71.7 points and 40.1 rebounds per game.   They lead the NWC in free throw percentage at 75.1 percent (247-329).  Loree Payne is in her fourth season as Puget Sound head coach.

LINFIELD
The Wildcats enter the week tied for seventh in the NWC at 1-5 and are 5-10 overall.  Linfield has lost three straight and four of their last five after dropping a pair to the eastern Washington schools over the weekend.  On Friday, Linfield gave Whitman one of their closest games of the season, but could not pull out on top in a 69-61 loss to the undefeated Missionaries.  The Wildcats shot 47.9 percent from the field, but were coaxed into 21 turnovers and shot just 3 of 13 from three-point range.  Taylor Solomon led Linfield with 22 points.  The Wildcats also shot well against Whitworth on Saturday, hitting 50 percent from the field in the first half and 41 percent for the game, but the Pirates went 9 of 25 from three-point range and 13 of 15 from the free throw line to win 74-54.  Kaely Maltman led the Wildcats with 18 points.  Maltman leads the Wildcats with an average of 15.1 points per game and leads the league in rebounding at 9.2 boards per game.  As a team, Linfield is averaging 62.1 points and 39.2 rebounds per game while shooting 42.2 percent from the field.   Robin Potera-Haskins is in her fourth season as Linfield head coach.

PACIFIC NEWS & NOTES
OVERTONES OF EXCEPTIONAL SCORING:
The Boxers relied on junior transfer Olivia Mayorga-Overtone (Jr., Oakland, Calif.) to carry much of the scoring load as she led the team in scoring in both weekend games.  On Friday at Lewis & Clark, Mayorga-Overtone scored 15 points on 4 of 8 from the field and 6 of 6 from the free throw line to go along with five rebounds, one assist and four steals.  She scored her first double-double as a Boxers on Saturday against Pacific Lutheran with 16 points and 10 rebounds with two assists and two steals.  Mayorga-Overtone enters the week as the Boxers' second leading scorer, averaging 11 pounts per game.  She is ranked third in the NWC with an .851 free throw percentage and is tied for 10 in the league wuth 40 free throws made.

COOKING UP SCORING: Olivia Cook (Jr., Beaverton, Ore.) continues to provide Pacific solid offense and defense.  The junior forward scored 14 points to go along with four rebounds in Friday's game at Lewis & Clark in 30 minutes of work.  She finished just short of a double-double on Saturday against Pacific Lutheran, scoring eight points to go along with eight rebounds.  Cook enters the week as the Boxers' top scorer and rebounder with averages of 11.7 points and 7.1 rebounds per game.  She is ranked eighth in the NWC in rebounding.  She is also ranked fourth in the NWC in free throw percentage (.841), fifth with 42 offensive rebounds and ninth with 99 total rebounds.

COLLECTING CHARITY: If Pacific has excelled in any one part of their game season, it has been in their ability to convert at the free throw line.  The Boxers enter the week with a .730 free throw percentage, ranking third in the NWC and 44th among NCAA Division III teams.  Pacific went a perfect 12 for 12 from the line in Friday's contest at Lewis & Clark.  The Boxers also feature two players in the NWC individual top-10 for free throw shooting.  Olivia Cook is ranked fourth in the NWC and 72nd among NCAA Division III players with an .841 percentage.  Olivia Mayorga-Overtone is ranked third in the NWC with an .851 free throw percentage, but does not meet the minimum of 2.5 made per game to qualify for the NCAA Division III stats.

RECORD PERFECTION: Pacific could not have been better from the free throw line in their game against Whitman on Jan. 4.  The Boxers went a perfect 13 of 13 from the free throw line, setting a new single game record.  The effort surpass the previous mark of .914 (31-34) against George Fox during the 1990-91 season.  The Boxers repeated the perfect performance against Lewis & Clark on Jan. 17, going 12 for 12 from the charity stripe.

ADEPT AT THEFT: Pacific is making plenty of opportunities to score by taking the ball away from their opponents.  The Boxers enter the week ranked second in the NWC in steals, averaging eight per game.  The Boxers finished with five steals in both games against Lewis & Clark and Pacific Lutheran over the weekend.  For the season, Pacific has 112 steals on the season, led by 18 by Olivia Mayorga-Overtone.  The steals have helped result in 212 turnovers for Pacific's opponents, an average of 15.1 per game.

BALL SECURITY: While Pacific ranks sixth in the NWC in turnovers, the Boxers are still among the top teams in Division when it comes to protecting the ball.  The Boxers are averaging 16.1 turnovers per game, ranking 97th among NCAA Division III teams.  Pacific posted a season-low seven turnovers against Walla Walla on Dec. 3.

PACIFIC PICKED SIXTH IN NWC PRESEASON POLL: Northwest Conference coaches have picked Pacific to finish sixth in the league this season according to results of the annual coaches poll, released on Nov. 8.  The Boxers received 27 of a possible 80 votes in the poll, finishing 8 points of ahead of Linfield, who was selected seventh. Puget Sound is 10 points ahead of the Boxers, picked to finish fifth.  Whitman was picked to win the NWC title, gaining seven first place votes and a total of 70 points.  Lewis & Clark is selected to finish second with 55 points, including two first place votes.
