Boxers Dominant In Season Finale Dual Victories Over Pioneers

FOREST GROVE – Pacific sent their five seniors out with a dominating performance Saturday as the Boxers swept Lewis & Clark in both school's Northwest Conference swimming dual meet season finale at the Forest Grove Aquatic Center.

The Pacific women took first place in 10 of the day's 11 events to cruise to a 122-83 victory. The Boxers were buoyed by three two-event winners in
Amanda Clark (Jr., Olympia, Wash.),
Katie Porter (Jr., McMinnville, Ore.) and
Rachel Webster (Fr., Normandy Park, Wash.).

Pacific men were winners in eight of the program's 11 events to beat the Pioneers 120-75.Â
Charles Morse (Fr., Forest Grove, Ore.) won all three of his events while
Carter Suzuki (Fr., Wailuku, Hawaii) won a pair.

With the win, Pacific's women finish the dual meet season with a 7-3 record, 4-3 in NWC duals. The men improved to 3-6-1 overall, 2-5 NWC.

The Boxers showed off the individual firepower that will serve them well for the NWC Championships in two weeks. Clark was an easy winner in her two events, taking the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:51.42 and the 500-yard freestyle in 5:16.37.

Porter won the two sprint freestyle disciplines, taking the 50-yard freestyle in 25.26 seconds and the 100-yard freestyle in 55.09 seconds. Webster won back-to-back events, taking the 200-yard individual medley in 2:16.29 and the 200-yard butterfly in 2:16.46.

Amber Chase (Jr., Tigard, Ore.) won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:05.24,
Kristine Valdez* (Sr., Poulsbo, Wash.) took the 200-yard backstroke in 2:17.53 and
Alex Bing* (Sr., Roseburg, Ore.) won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:32.19.

Pacific and Lewis & Clark split the women's relays, The Boxers won the opening 400-yard medley relay in 4:11.28, while the Pioneers earned the win in the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:54.70.

Morse was the prime mover behind Pacific's men's victory. He opened the day with the victory in the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:13.16. He added the 200-yard butterfly win with a time of 51.56 seconds and closed his day with 500-yard freestyle, cruising with a time of 5:01.16.

Suzuki won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:03.41 and then added the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:15.87.Â
Spencer Chandler* (Jr., Weiser, Idaho) claimed the 100-yard freestyle in 51.56 seconds and
Michael Hargitt* (Sr., Oregon City, Ore.) won the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 2:05.67.

The two teams also split the men's relays. The Boxers were easy winners in the men's 400-yard medley relay in a time of 3:54.51. Lewis & Clark held off a late Pacific surge to claim the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:27.55.

Pacific will now turn its focus to the NWC Championships. The meet will take place Feb. 14-16 at the Weyerhauser/King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Wash.
