No. 4 Whitman Moves Past Boxers With Consistent Shooting

Olivia Mayorga-Overtone (Jr., Oakland, Calif.) posted a career night with a team-high 18 points, but the Pacific women's basketball team couldn't keep up with a fast paced Whitman team, suffering a 78-58 loss in the Northwest Conference match up on Saturday at the Stoller Center.

The Boxers were off to a great start with a 7-3 run over the No. 4 ranked Whitman squad.
Nani Ostrom (Jr., Juneau, Alaska) started the game off with a three-pointer and
Sarah Curl (Fr., Portland, Ore.) went to the line for two sunken free throws. Their run was capped with a layup from
Olivia Cook (Jr., Beaverton, Ore.) before the Boxers lost their way and the Missionaries took control for the rest of the game.

With the offense trying to keep up with a fast paced Missionaries team, the Boxers forced turnovers that hurt them down the road, turning over the ball 10 times in the first half. Whitman, shooting 46.9 percent from the field in the first half, outshot the Boxers.

The Boxers couldn't find their way in the second half as they turned the ball over nine more times to give up 17 total points off turnovers for the game. Whitman boosted their lead in the second half to 18 points and the Boxers brought it down to 10 points at the 6:50 minute mark after three made free throws from Mayorga-Overtone.

Whitman eventually took the a 22-point lead, their largest of the night with three minutes left to play and held the Boxers the rest of the way.

Along with her 18 points, Mayorga-Overtone grabbed four rebounds and one steal. She made 7 of 15 from the field, 1 of 3 from three-point range and was perfect, in three attempts, at the free throw line. Cook added 11 points while
Kati Sheldon (Sr., Paso Robles, Calif.) led the Boxers with five rebounds. The Boxers shot 34.5 percent form the field, 31.3 percent from three-point range and were perfect from the free throw line.

The Boxers drop to 6-4 on the season and 0-2 in conference play while Whitman remains perfect with 10 wins and two conference wins. The Boxers will travel next week to Willamette on Tuesday before traveling to George Fox on Saturday. Both games will start at 6 p.m.
