Box ScoreNEWBERG, Ore. – Pacific saw four different players score goals Saturday as the Boxers pushed the offense in a 4-1 victory over George Fox Saturday in Northwest Conference men's soccer action at the Austin Sports Complex.
Â
The freshman trio of
Diego Lopes (Fr., San Francisco, Calif.),
Cameron Laird (Fr., Monroe, Wash.) and
Jaren Otani (Fr., Wailuku, Hawaii) scored the Boxers' three first half goals while
Ian Farley (Sr., Spokane, Wash.) scored his third goal of the season in the second half.Â
Matt Kimball (Fr., Tigard, Ore.) finished with two assists as the Boxers improved to 5-6-1, 2-4-1 NWC.
Â
"This was our most complete performance so far this season," said Pacific head coach
Eric Mild. "The defending was awesome and I am really proud of the performance our guys put forth."
Â
Lopes needed just four minutes to put Pacific on the board. Moving the ball into the 18-yard box himself, Lopes created base as he went one-on-one with a George Fox defender to score his first collegiate goal. Laird followed with his first collegiate goal in the eighth minute.Â
Elan Yogi (So., Mililani, Hawaii) started the scoring play with a corner kick, which rebounded off a couple of Bruins' defenders before coming to Laird for the 2-0 Pacific advantage.
Â
Otani gave Pacific the three-goal lead in the 28th minute. Kimball fed the ball to Otani at the far side of the 18-yard box, which Otani fired into the net for his second score of the season.
Â
George Fox's Joab Logan ended the shutout in the 36th minute as he put in a header off of Sean Owens' crossing pass that allowed the Bruins to come within 3-1 at halftime.
Â
Farley tallied the only goal in the second half. Once again Kimball provided the assist as he fed Farley for the header from the far side of the 18-yard box.
Â
"Ian by far has his best match of the season," Mild said. "
Matt Kimball had a great impact of the game with his two assists. It feels like our guys are developing in our system of play and are getting comfortable with each other. We feel good about the second half of conference play."
Â
Leyton Thommasen (Fr., Des Moines, Calif.) once again turned in another outstanding performance in goal, making seven saves as he improved to 5-6-1 on the season. Ricardo Sotelo took the loss in goal for George Fox, making four saves against four goals.
Â
After three straight matches on the road, Pacific returns home for a pair of matches next weekend. Pacific will host Linfield on Friday night before hosting Willamette on Sunday afternoon.
