FOREST GROVE – Pacific posted yet another strong defensive effort against one of the Northwest Conference's perennial powers Sunday, but in the end Puget Sound made the most of their scoring chances in a 2-1 victory over the Boxers in women's soccer action at Hanson Stadium.

After the Loggers scored the first two goals of the match, McKenna Davidson (So., Kailua Kona, Hawaii) notched her third goal of the season late in the match, scoring on the Boxers' second penalty kick in as many days in the 89th minute.

The Boxers (5-6-1, 2-5-1 NWC) did their part to keep the defending NWC champions from seeing too many scoring opportunities.  Pacific outshot Puget Sound 9-5 as the defense limited the Loggers to just two shots in the first half and no corner kicks for the entire match.

Puget Sound (8-3-0, 6-2-0 NWC) received their first goal on a defensive miscue as the Boxers knocked the ball into their own net for an own goal.   Cassie Winter notched that became the winning goal in the 56th minute.  Annie Jonsson crossed the ball to Winter from the near side of the field, who launched the ball into the net from just off the left corner of the 18-yard box.

While the defense did it's part, the Pacific offense pressed hard by taking all five of their first have shots in the first 17 minutes of the match.  Kara Lankey (So., La Canada, Calif.) had Pacific's first quality chance in the 10th minute when her header hammered off the crossbar.  Kamryn Plechot (Sr., La Palma, Calif.) and Breezy Brookbank (So., Burien, Wash.) had shots in the 16th and 17th minutes, respectively, both of which were saved by Puget Sound keeper Lauren Thomas.

Pacific's only second half shot on goal, outside of the penalty kick, came in the 60th minute when Lucy Almao (So., Orange County, Calif.) had her shot saved by Thomas.

Megan Green (So., Albany, Ore.) fell to 2-4-0 with the loss in goal, making one save.  Thomas improved to 3-3-0 with the victory, making three saves.

Pacific will open the second half of the NWC season on Wednesday night, traveling to Linfield for a 7 p.m. match.  The Boxers return home on Sunday, hosting Lewis & Clark at noon.
