McIntyre's Goal Not Enough In Rainy Night Loss

McMINNVILLE, Ore. – It is safe to say that the Pacific women's soccer team will not be singing Eddie Rabbit's "I Love A Rainy Night" anytime soon.
 
Despite Kathleen McIntyre's second goal of the season late in the first half, the Boxers were not able to overcome a solid offensive effort by Linfield as they fellow to the Wildcats 2-1 in their Northwest Conference match Wednesday night at a sloppy Linfield Soccer Field.
 
McIntyre scored the goal in the 44th minute as she broke away near the right center of the 18-yard box and knocked a slow roller into the center of an open net as Linfield goalkeeper McKena King came out to challenge the play.  The strike evened the match after Linfield received credit for an own goal in the 11th minute.
 
Emily Fellows scored the game-winner for the Wildcats in the 55th minute when Rachael Gernhart used her speed to move to the end line and then cross to Fellows on the far post.  Fellows was quick to head the ball into the left side of the net for her ninth goal of the season.
 
Pacific goalkeeper Kristina Morris (So., Molalla, Ore.), playing in her first match since Sept. 28, came up big for the Boxers when the Wildcats were awarded a penalty kick in the 73rd minute.  Fellows knocked the shot to the right center of the goal and straight to Morris, who knocked it away with enough time for the Pacific defense to prevent any follow-up from Linfield's attackers.
 
Linfield outshot Pacific 14-5 and allowed the Boxers' just two shots on goal.  Outside of McIntyre's goal, Pacific's other shot on goal came from Kara Lankey (So., La Canada, Calif.) in the 12th minute.
 
Morris took the goalkeeping loss for Pacific, dropping to 3-3-1 on the season while making five saves.  King made one save in the victory for the Wildcats.
 
With the win, Linfield improved to 9-3-0, 6-3-0 NWC, while the Boxers dropped to 5-7-1, 2-6-1 NWC.  Pacific returns to action on Sunday at Hanson Stadium, hosting Lewis & Clark.  Kickoff is scheduled for noon.  A video webcast of the match will be available at GoBoxers.com.
