FOREST GROVE – Taylor Hudson's penalty kick goal in the 44th minute proved to be the difference for Lewis & Clark Sunday as the Pioneers took a 1-0 victory from Pacific in Northwest Conference women's soccer action at Hanson Stadium.

Hudson was awarded the penalty kick in when Emily Tuffey (Sr., Valencia, Calif.) was whistled for a foul in the middle of the 18-yard box.  Hudson shot to the near side of the goal and hit the lower right corner for her second goal of the season.

The penalty kick was the only scoring in a match that proved even by the numbers.  Both teams finished with six shots, with Pacific outshooting L&C 4-2 in the second half.  The Pioneers finished with three shots on goal and Pacific registered two.  Pacific claimed a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Lucy Almao (So., Orange County, Calif.) had Pacific's best scoring first half opportunity in 14th minute as she took advantage of a wide open opportunity from 30 yards out.  The ball sailed just high of the crossbar.

The Pioneers had the first good look of the match in the fifth minute when Anna Thorndike's corner kick hooked back towards the goal line and was parried away by Pacific goalkeeper Kristina Morris (So., Molalla, Ore.).  The Pioneers had a couple of additional looks, but could never put another shot on frame.  Emily Thompson found herself open just inside the near corner of the 18-yard box in the 30th minute, fired and had her shot fall right to the hands of Morris for the save.

Kara Lankey (So., La Canada, Calif.) provide for Pacific's first shot on goal in the 49th minute, knocking a slow roller from out of the middle of a scrum from five yards, which was easily saved by L&C netminder Geena Fong.

The Boxers pressed again on a pair of corner kicks in the 84th minute.  On the second, Almao's corner hooked towards the goal before being cleared away by a L&C defender, and Ashley Park-Hunt's (So., Mililani, Hawaii) second chance from right in front of the goal was saved by Fong.

Morris dropped to 3-4-1 with the loss while Fong improved to 9-4-2.  Both keepers finished with two saves.

Pacific is on the eastern Washington trip next weekend, playing at Whitworth on Saturday and Whitman on Sunday.  Match time both days is scheduled for noon.
