SPOKANE, Wash. – An 85th minute goal by Courtney Potter was all the scoring to be seen at the Whitworth Soccer Field as the Whitworth Pirates edged Pacific 1-0 in a Northwest Conference women's soccer match on Saturday afternoon.

The Boxers looked to control the offensive stats in the match as Pacific outshot Whitworth 11-8 on the day.

Despite nine combined shots between the two sides in the opening period, the first true scoring opportunity for either team came in the early part of the second half. Kara Lankey (So., La Canada, Calif.) had a look in the opening 50 seconds of the second period, but saw her chance wide before the Boxers' offensive attack continued with a Krisa Duff (Jr., Phoenix, Ariz.) shot cleared off the line by the Pirates' defense.

Duff had another chance less than a minute later as she headed a Holly Chang-Northway (So., Eugene, Ore.) corner off the crossbar. The rebound found its way to the far post, where a cluster of Pacific legs were unable to push the ball beyond the Whitworth defense. The ball eventually found the head of Lankey around the edge of the six-yard box, but Lankey's header found the hands of Whitworth goalkeeper Andrea Stump.

Whitworth saw more of the offensive looks following Pacific's early second period chances and saw Potter coral a pass from McKenzie Hemp to score the games lone goal.

Lankey led Pacific with two shots on goal and four total shots in the match, while goalkeeper Kristina Morris (So., Molalla, Ore.) made two saves in the match.

Pacific heads southwest to Whitman College next for a noon appointment with the Whitman Missionaries on Sunday.
