WALLA WALLA, Wash. – A well-placed header from Ian Farley in the 99th minute netted the Pacific Boxers a 1-0 overtime victory over the Whitman Missionaries in a Northwest Conference men's soccer match.

After dropping a 1-0 decision earlier in the season to Whitman, the Boxers traveled to Walla Walla and battled the Missionaries over 90 scoreless minutes of regulation. Nearly a minute before the first overtime period would come to an end, Weli Alamillo (Fr., Aiea, Hawaii) sent a cross to the head of Ian Farley (Sr., Spokane, Wash.), who nodded his fifth goal of the season past Whitman's Stuart Ellsworth.

"Nice finish, nice result for us to come up here and battle with two good teams and come back with three points," said Pacific head coach Eric Mild.

Pacific's first look at goal came in the 15th minute of the match as Farley saw Ellsworth stop his opening shot of the day. As the two sides exchanged possession and shots for the remainder of the first period, Ellsworth and Pacific goalkeeper Leyton Thommasen (Fr., Des Moines, Wash.) each had to make a single save before time expired on the first half.

The second period saw the two sides find momentum on the offensive end, only to be turned away by the opposing goalkeepers for another 45-minute clip. Pacific's Matt Kimball (Fr., Tigard) forced the first save of the second half in the 60th minute as his shot was cleared off the line by the Missionaries defense.

Thommasen was called into action soon after Kimball's shot was turned away, as the Boxers' keeper parried a shot from Eric Conte away.

Pacific and Whitman combined for 15 shots during the second half, with Thommasen forced to make four saves in the period.

Playing in overtime for the second straight match, the Boxers held off the Whitman attack over the first five minutes of overtime. During the opening five minutes of the overtime period, Whitman took four shots, placing one on frame that was saved by Thommasen.

"The backline was outstanding once again," Mild said. "To have played over 100 minutes yesterday and to have that whole group play 90-plus today, they need to be commended on their mental toughness, fitness and their performance."

Farley's goal, off Alamillo's assist, came on the Boxers' first shot of overtime.

Thommasen recorded six saves on the afternoon as he recorded his fourth clean sheet of the season, while on the offensive end Farley's goal was his fifth of the season. Alamillo's game winning assist was his second assist of the year.
