Watson Tallies Pacific's Lone Goal In Deadlock With Willamette

SALEM, Ore. – Pacific and Willamette scored the match's only goals within a minute of each other in the first half Saturday while both teams saw scoring opportunities fall short in the overtime periods as the Boxers and Bearcats struggled to a 1-1 tie in Northwest Conference men's soccer action at Sparks Field.
 
Julian Hanlon-Austin scored Willamette's initial strike unassisted in the 22nd minute.  Taking the ball himself down the right side, Hanlon-Austin beat his defender and shot from 10 yards out to the upper right corner of the net for the 1-0 lead.
 
Mark Watson, Jr. (Jr., Clackamas, Ore.) came right back to tie in in the 23rd minute.  He was in position to rebound a missed shot by Weli Alamillo (Fr., Aiea, Hawaii) from three yards out for his team-leading fifth goal of the season.
 
Neither team would score again, but both had solid scoring opportunities in the overtime periods.  Yazan Hishmeh nearly won it for Willamette with a header in the 97th minute that went off the left post.  In the 99th minute, Willamette was the recipient of a penalty kick after Hanlon-Austin was tripped in the 18-yard box.  Hishmeh took the penalty kick, but his attempt rolled wide left.
 
Pacific (3-6-1, 0-4-1 NWC) appeared to have the match won in the 105th minute when Esteban Cruz (Fr., Dayton, Ore.) headed a shot from five yards out into the net, but the goal was disallowed doe to an offside call.
 
Willamette (6-4-1, 3-1-1 NWC) outshot Pacific 26-9 and also owned a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks.  Thommasen saw his record go to 3-6-1 with the tie, making eight saves.  Willamette goalkeeper made six saves while seeing his record go to 5-4-1.
 
Pacific will complete the weekend road trip on Sunday, traveling to Linfield.
