Box ScoreSALEM, Ore. – For the third straight season,
Tyler Shipley (Jr., Forest Grove, Ore.) earned All-West Region honors to lead the Pacific cross country teams at the NCAA West Regional Championships, hosted by Willamette University at Bush's Pasture Park.
Â
The 2014 Northwest Conference champion finished in 16th place, covering the frozen 8,000-meter course in a time of 25:59.9. Shipley was the third runner from the NWC to cross the finish line, bettered by the ninth place finish of Puget Sound's David Santillan and the 10th place finish of Willamette's Yonny Catillo.
Â
While the placing earned Shipley All-West Region honors, a third straight trip to the NCAA Division III Championships is in question. The 16th place finish makes Shipley the No. 8 individual finisher that was not a member of the top two teams, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Pomona-Pitzer. The top two teams and the next seven individuals earn automatic qualifiers, meaning Shipley will have to wait for Sunday's selection announcement to see if he will join the nationals field.
Â
Shipley led a young Pacific team to a 17th place finish in the men's competition with a score of 440 points. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps won the regional title with 46 points while Pomona-Pitzer placed second with 52 points.
Â
Stephenie Spencer (Fr., Bothell, Wash.) cruised to a 30th place finish in her first regional meet, covering the 6,000-meter course in a time of 23:21.1, which was just five seconds off of her season best. She led the Pacific women to a 15th place team finish with a score of 412 points.
Â
Morgan Nichols (Fr., Portland, Ore.) was Pacific's No. 2 runner on the men's side, finishing 97th in a time of 28:14.8.Â

Â
