Howe Earns First Dual Meet Win As Boxers Drop Opening Dual

COOS BAY, Ore. – Tyler Howe (Fr., Aumsville, Ore.) picked up his first dual meet victory in Pacific singlet Saturday, leading the Boxers in a 40-9 loss to Southwestern Oregon CC in the men's wrestling team's first dual of the season at the Student Recreation Center.
 
Howe improved to 3-2 on the season at 184 pounds as he scored a 7-5 decision over Ismael Rubio.  That win, paired with a forfeit accepted by Shawn Speer (Jr., Battle Ground, Wash.) as 141 pounds, though, proved to be the Boxers' only victories of the night against the Lakers, ranked No. 12 in the NJCAA Preseason National Poll.  Four of the Lakers' eight victories in the dual came by way of fall. 
 
Matthew Nguyen opened the evening with a pin over Lucas Beltz (So., Wilmot, N.H.) at 125 pounds.  Thaddeus Nelson made it a 9-0 Laker's lead with a 9-6 decision over Eric Harder (Sr., Bethesda, Md.) at 133 pounds.  After Speer accepted the forfeit at 141, Trever Olson doubled up the Lakers' score with a 5-3 decision over Ricky Ridela (Jr., Waipahu, Hawaii) at 149 pounds.
 
Adrian Lyons-Lopez followed that up with a pin of Keith Thomas at 157 and Payton Moore accepted a forfeit at 165 pounds to make it a 24-6 Southwestern Oregon lead.  Andrew Orr added six more points with his pin of Damon Boren (Fr., Alta Loma, Calif.) at 174 pounds before How collected his victory at 184.  Hunter Pasternack added a 9-0 major decision over Joey Norcia (Jr., Santa Ynez, Calif.) at 197 pounds before Daniel Chatmon, Jr., closed the night with a pin of Bryan Hoffman at heavyweight.
 
Pacific returns to tournament action next weekend, competing in the Spokane Open next Saturday.
