Martinez Leads Boxers In Season Opening Dual Loss To Lakers

COOS BAY, Ore. – Bailey Martinez (So., Oak Harbor, Wash.) improved her record to a team-best 5-3 on the season Saturday night, leading the Boxers in a 47-5 women's wrestling loss to Southwestern Oregon CC in the Boxers' first dual of the season at the Student Recreation Center.
 
Martinez collected her third technical fall of the season and her third win of the season in the 143-pound weight class, collecting a 10-0 victory over Amber Quintana.  It proved to be the Boxers' only win of the evening as the Lakers won the five other contested matches and collected forfeit victories in four other weight classes.
 
Melissa Ortiz opened the night with a close 6-5 decision over Mariah Damaso at 101 pounds.  Yolonda Lawes gave the Lakers an 8-0 lead with a 10-0 technical fall at 109 pounds over Elizabeth Oshiro (Fr., Kapaa, Hawaii).  After Alison Johnson accepted a forfeit at 116 pounds, Sadie Bailey gave the Lakers their second technical fall of the night with a 12-2 win over Beatriz Bautista (Fr., Santa Maria, Calif.) at 123 pounds.
 
A forfeit for Kayla Payne at 130 pounds was followed by the only pin of the night as Talisha Dozier beat CarrieAnn Randolph (So., Honolulu, Hawaii).  Wyatt Saling (Fr., White Center, Wash.) fell in the final contested match of the night, taking a 10-0 technical fall to Olivia Pizano in the 155-pound bout.  The Boxers also gave up forfeits in the 170-pound and 190-pound weight classes.
 
The dual was Pacific's first of the season after a scheduled Thursday dual at Warner Pacific was postponed due to weather.  The Boxers return to the mat on Sat., Dec. 6, facing Southwestern Oregon CC again at the Stoller Center.  The match is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
