FOREST GROVE, Ore. – After 85 scoreless minutes of soccer, Sydney Virgen secured a Pacific victory as she took advantage of a spilled ball from the George Fox goalkeeper as the Boxers topped the Bruins 1-0 at Hanson Stadium.

Well before Virgen's (Fr., Richland, Wash.) dramatics, Pacific recognized its senior class. During a pregame presentation, Chandler Bowen (Sr., Silverdale, Wash.), Emily Tuffey (Sr., Valencia, Calif.), Taylor Gillespie (Sr., Silverdale, Wash.) and Kamryn Plechot (Sr., La Palma, Calif.) were honored for their four years at Pacific University.

Pacific controlled the attacking chances in the opening period as Tuffey forced Ally Swanson into the first save of the morning in the 17th minute. Tuffey was joined on the offensive end in the 31st minute when Krisa Duff (Jr., Phoenix, Ariz.) placed a shot on frame, which was stopped by Swanson.

Sadie Parker (Fr., Redlands, Calif.) wrapped up the offensive opportunities for the two sides in the 41st, but was denied by Swanson.

After a halftime change at goalkeeper for the Bruins, Pacific had the opportunity to test Morgan Hansen early in the second half when Duff forced Hansen's first save of the match.

The second half progressed with opportunities from both sides, but the whole match turned in the 78th minute when Leilani Barker was sent off with her second yellow card. With the Bruins down a player for the remainder of the match, Pacific found space to push the ball toward its offensive half.

The open field provided space down the left side of the field for Kara Lankey (So., La Canada. Calif.) to push down the wing and send a low cross toward the goal mouth. Hansen stepped up to handle the cross, but the Bruins' goalkeeper spilled the ball in front of a charging Virgen who tapped in her second goal of the season.

Pacific outshot George Fox 14-3 in the match, as Duff and Tuffey each fired three shots off in the match. Pacific goalkeeper Kristina Morris (So. Molalla, Ore.) recorded one save in the cleansheet victory.

The Boxers travel north to Puget Sound on Friday with a scheduled kickoff of 11 a.m.
