FOREST GROVE – A nine-kill performance by Marie Rewick (So., Honolulu, Hawaii) was not enough to send Pacific's seniors out with a victory Saturday night as the Boxers lost their 2014 finale to Willamette in three sets, 25-20, 30-28, 25-20, in Northwest Conference volleyball action at the Stoller Center.

Rewick led a night that saw the Boxers (6-18, 2-14 NWC) spread out the office throughout the front row.   Hannah Herbert (Jr., Hillsboro, Ore.) finished with six kills and three blocks.  Una Areta (So., Kent, Wash.) and Haley Bedell (Jr., Bothell, Wash) added six kills apiece while Hannah Smargiassi (Tualatin, Ore.) finished with five kills and two blocks.

Taylor Gee led the Willamette effort with 11 kills and four blocks.  Sarah Fincher added eight kills while Elisa Ahern and Alida Holt each had seven kills.  The Bearcats (12-13, 7-9 NWC) finished the night hitting .198 and had 10 blocks.

Willamette jumped out to an 11-7 lead in the opening set on a Holt kill, but the Boxers bounced back to tie it at 18-18 on a Bearcats' attack error.  Willamette went on to win the next four points, taking a 22-18 lead on a Pacific attack error.  Fincher completed the 25-20 with a kill on the final rally.

The two teams fought hard in an entertaining second set that saw 10 lead changes and 14 ties.  Willamette jumped out to a 13-10 lead on a Pacific error and went ahead 16-11 on Ahern's kill before the Boxers rallied.  Smargiassi and Herbert combined for the block to tie it and Emily Farnham (Jr., University Place, Wash.) followed with a service ace to take the 22-21 lead.

Willamette took a 24-22 lead on an attack error before Herbert's kill and a Willamette attack error tied the frame at 24-24.  The teams traded opportunities to win it until an attack error and a Holt kill ended it at 30-28 in favor of the Bearcats.

The Bearcats led from start to finish in the third set, jumping out to an 11-7 lead on Tynan Gable's service ace.  Bedell responded with a kill before the Bearcats went on a five-point run, culminating on Bailey Kray's kill that made it a 16-8 advantage.  Pacific came back to bring the set within 21-17 on a Willamette attack error before Gee came up with three kills in the final six rallies to salt away the match.

Tonight's match was the last for two seniors, Bedell and Melissa Lund (Sr., Roseburg, Ore.).
