LAS VEGAS –
Tyler Howe (Fr., Aumsville, Ore.) led the way for Pacific with two victories as the Pacific men's wrestling team faced their first Division III competition of the season as the Wartburg Desert Duals, held Monday at the Flamingo Hotel.
Howe improved his record to 9-7 on the season as he went 2-2 in his first matches of the season at 174 pounds. He first win of the day came in the second dual of the afternoon, earning the Boxers' only win in their dual with Concordia-Moorhead with a 5-2 decision over Dane Ringquist. Howe added a decision victory in the day's final dual against the Milwaukee School of Engineering, taking an 8-3 decision over Garret Gross.
Injuries and youth played a role, however, as the Boxers dropped all four of their matches to drop to 0-6 on the season. Pacific took a 50-6 loss to Wis.-La Crosse, a 51-2 loss to Concordia-Moorhead, a 50-6 loss to Buena Vista and a 35-15 loss to Milwaukee School of Engineering.
Eric Harder (Sr., Bethesda, Md.) was also a winner of two matches at 133 pounds. He earned his third pin of the season against Buena Vista, needing 2:21 to dispatch Mitchell Broer. Harder then closed his tournament with a 7-3 decision victory over Nick Miceli of the Milwaukee School of Engineering.
Shawn Speer (Jr., Battle Ground, Wash.) earned the only win against Wis.-La Crosse, collecting the forfeit at 141 pounds. Against the Milwaukee School of Engineering,
Keith Thomas (Fr., Fremont, Calif.) collected a forfeit victory at 149 pounds while
Ricky Ridela (Jr., Waipahu, Hawaii) scored a 57-second fall over TreJon House at 157 pounds.
Pacific returns to action on Jan. 9, taking part in the South Puget Sound Duals in Olympia, Wash.
