Beatriz Bautista (Fr., Santa Maria, Calif.) proved superior in earning her second collegiate victory while
Bailey Martinez (So., Oak Harbor, Wash.) came back late to earn her team-best sixth win of the season as Pacific fell to Southwestern Oregon CC, 33-13, in women's wrestling action at the Stoller Center.
Bautista gave Ramey Gerke little chance to get momentum going in the 123-pound match, scoring four points in the opening round before scoring a four-point throw to begin the second period. She would eventually go on to the 10-0 technical fall to improve to 2-7 on the season.
Martinez, meanwhile, had to mount an impressive comeback to improve to 6-3 on the season. Wrestling in the 155-pound bout, Martinez found herself down 2-1 to Janell Fuanatu after one round and then 5-2 after Fuanatu scored a four-point throw to begin the second period. Fuanatu would not score again, but Martinez would score a pair of takedowns to close the match, including one with just two seconds left, to take the 6-5 victory.
Pacific was on the losing end of the three other contested matches of the night.
Mariah Damaso (Fr., Fremont, Calif.) earned just a second round takedown in an 8-2 loss to Melissa Ortiz at 101 pounds. Jodi Lawes scored early and often for the Lakers to take a 10-0 technical fall from
Elizabeth Oshiro (Fr., Kapaa, Hawaii).
CarrieAnn Randolph (So., Honolulu, Hawaii) fought hard, but was overpowered by Talisha Dozier in a first round pin in the 136-pound bout.
Pacific gave up forfeits to the Lakers at 116 pounds, 130 pounds, 170 pounds and 191 pounds.
Wyatt Saling (Fr., White Center, Wash.) accepted the forfeit for the Boxers at 143 pounds.
Pacific's next action will be in Coos Bay next weekend. The Boxers will participate in a series of duals and a clinic from Dec. 13 to Dec. 15 at Southwestern Oregon CC in Coos Bay.
