Boxers Storm Past Cyclones In Straight Sets

FOREST GROVE – There was no storm warning needed for Pacific in their opener to the 2014 women's tennis season Saturday as the Boxers proved dominant in a 9-0 victory over Mills at the Holce Tennis Courts.
 
The Boxers (1-0) allowed two games or less to their opponents in five of the nine matches contested as every Pacific player won in straight sets over the Cyclones (0-1).
 
The No. 1 doubles team of Kaitlyn Lomartire (Fr., Portland, Ore.) and Francesca Battaglia (Jr., Sherman Oaks, Calif.) debuted with a shutout, winning 8-0 over Phoebe Minette and Casey Honath.  Carlee Rhodaback (So., Albany, Ore.) and Kelsey Lack (Sr., Grants Pass, Ore.) paired for an 8-2 victory over Alice Hewitt and Noelani Meteyry at No. 2 while Danielle Hunter (Jr., La Quinta, Calif.) and Kelly Flores (Fr., Ewa Beach, Hawaii) debuted with an 8-3 win at No. 3 over Alexandra Graff and Alessandra Cuenco.
 
Lomartire started the straight set victories for Pacific singles, scoring a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Minette in the No. 1 flight.  Battaglia was a 6-0, 6-0 winner over Hewitt at No. 2 while Rhodaback was a 6-2, 7-5 winner over Honath at No. 3.
 
Danielle Wicks (So., Phoenix, Ariz.) scored a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Meteyry at No. 4.  Lack was a 6-1, 6-3 winner over Graff at No. 5 while Flores picked up a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Cuenco at No. 6.
 
Pacific moves right into Northwest Conference play next weekend, traveling north to take on Puget Sound on Friday.  The match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
