TACOMA, Wash. – 
Kaitlyn Lomartire (Fr., Portland, Ore.) made it a 2-0 start to her collegiate career Friday, leading Pacific in an 8-1 loss to Puget Sound in both teams' Northwest Conference women's tennis season opener at the UPS Tennis Pavilion.
 
Lomartire went the distance in a straight set victory in the No. 1 singles flight, edging past Logan Thompson 7-6, 7-5.  
Francesca Battaglia (Jr., Sherman Oaks, Calif.) nearly added a second win to the Pacific ledger, but dropped a third-set super-tiebreaker to fall to Jenna Gerdsen 6-0, 6-7, 10-8.
 
Carlee Rhodaback (So., Albany, Ore.) dropped a 6-1, 6-2 decision to Marissa Friedman at No. 3, while 
Danielle Wicks (So., Phoenix, Ariz.) fell to Elizabeth Chow at No. 4, 6-2, 6-0.  Malia Ford was a 6-3, 6-1 winner for the Loggers at No. 5 over 
Kelsey Lack (Sr., Grants Pass, Ore.) and Sarah Nielsen took a 6-2, 6-2 decision over 
Kelly Flores (Fr., Ewa Beach, Hawaii) at No. 6.
 
In doubles, Battaglia and Lomartire dropped a hard-fought 8-5 decision at No. 1 to Thompson and Friedman.  Rhodaback and Lack fell 8-4 to Ford and Chao at No. 2 while Flores and 
Danielle Hunter (Jr., La Quinta, Calif.) fell to Nielsen and Allison Embernate in No. 3, 8-1.
 
The Boxers will be back to action on Sunday, playing at George Fox at noon.
