Box Score

TACOMA, Wash. – For the second day in a row, Pacific found themselves on the winning end of a high-scoring game as the Boxers rolled to a 16-8, five-inning victory over Puget Sound Sunday in Northwest Conference softball action at Logger Field.

Becca Moen (Sr., Gresham, Ore.) led the Boxers with a 3 for 5 afternoon with a double and three runs scored while Ashley Mitchell (So., Redmond, Wash.) smashed her third home run of the season and her second in as many games.  The second game of the doubleheader was postponed due to rain and will be made up at a date yet to be determined.

In their two completed games, Pacific finished with 39 runs on 47 hits in an amazing show of offensive production.

Pacific opened the game by scoring two unearned runs in the first.  Rachel Roberts (So., Oregon City, Ore.) and Quirena Natividad (So., Waipahu, Hawaii) both reached base and advanced to second and third on a passed ball.  Both then scored on a single by Kylee Oshiro (Jr., Aiea, Hawaii).

The Boxers added two in the second when Roberts doubled to score Kylee Yamamoto (So., Mililani, Hawaii) and Moen plated on a passed ball.  The Loggers came back to score two in the home half of the frame on Kristi Nagamine's sacrifice fly and a single by Olivia Turner.  Puget Sound tied it with two runs in the third on a ground out and another Nagamine single.

Pacific broke the game open with a five-run fourth inning, scoring all of their runs with two outs.  Roberts opened scoring with a sacrifice fly that plated Kaitlyn Shikada (Jr., Honolulu, Hawaii).  Natividad scored one with a single, Oshiro scored one on a double to left field and Moser capped the frame with a two-run homer.

The Boxers then built the pad they needed with a seven-run fifth inning.  Roberts again started the scoring with a sacrifice fly, Natividad followed with a RBI double to left center field and then scored on a passed ball.  Mitchell followed with a three-run homer.  Pitch-hitter Kaitlyn Higgins (So., Spokane, Wash.) later reached on a fielder's choice and score on a Yamamoto's single to right field.

Puget Sound rallied with a four-run bottom of the fifth inning, but the eight runs for the Boxers in the visitor's half of the frame made the difference.

Sara Aasness (Sr., Kirkland, Wash.) earned the win for the Boxers in relief, allowing four runs, two earned, one six hits with three walks and two strikeouts in 2.2 innings of work.  Starter Allie Sims (Fr., Puyallup, Wash.) allowed four runs on five hits with a walk in 2.1 innings.  Megan Campbell took the loss for Puget Sound, allowing nine runs, five earned, on nine hits with a walk and two strikeouts in 3.2 innings.

Pacific returns home to Sherman/Larkins Stadium on Saturday as they host Willamette for a doubleheader.  First pitch is scheduled for noon.
