Boxers Prove Dominant In Sweep Of Pacific Lutheran

TACOMA, Wash. – Pacific continued its impressive start to the season Friday afternoon, showing a level of dominance in a 9-0 sweep of Pacific Lutheran in Northwest Conference men's tennis action at the PLU Courts.
 
"Our guys were excited for the chance to play PLU after the loss to them last year," said Pacific assistant coach Pete Yellico.  "I am really proud of how hard the guys played today."
 
The Boxers improved to 3-1, 2-0 NWC, while Pacific Lutheran dropped to 0-3, 0-3 NWC.
 
In doubles, Troy Zuroske (Sr., Richland, Wash.) and Giancarlo Battaglia (Jr., Sherman Oaks, Calif.) paired together for the first time this conference season and opened with an 8-3 victory over Sam Angel and Neal Berg in the No. 1 flight. 
 
Brennan Faith (Fr., Redondo Beach, Calif.) and Grayson Frazier (Jr., La Canada, Calif.) followed with an 8-5 victory over Spencer Herron and Jake Yannello at No. 2 while Lorne Bulling (So., Corvallis, Ore.) and Clark Wininger (Fr., San Francisco, Calif.) scored a close 8-6 victory over James Okubo and Sam Stadter at No. 3.
 
In singles, Battaglia earned his first win of the season in the No. 1 flight with a convincing 6-2, 6-2 victory over Angel.  Zuroske battled from one set down to take a three-set victory from Stadter, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, while Faith clinched the match with a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Yannello in the No. 3 match.
 
Bulling added a 6-2, 6-3 win over Okubo at No. 4 while Alen Suklje (Jr., Beaverton, Ore.) was a 6-3, 6-1 winner over Berg at No. 5.  Wininger closed the day with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout of Brandon Bulaclac in the No. 6 match.
 
For the second straight weekend, the contest is Pacific lone match.  The Boxers return to action on Sat., Mat. 7, when they travel east to face perennial NWC power Whitman.
