Wildcats Use Series Of Big Innings To Sweep Boxers

FOREST GROVE – After engaging Pacific in a pair of close games on Wednesday, No. 11 ranked Linfield broke out the bats on the return trip to Forest Grove as the Wildcats swept a Northwest Conference softball doubleheader from the Boxers at Sherman/Larkins Stadium.

The Wildcats used a pair of big innings early to take the opener, scoring four in the first and three in the third to claim the 7-2 victory. Linfield then rebuffed an early Pacific lead with a seven-run fourth inning en route to a 10-1, five-inning win.

Kylee Oshiro (Jr., Aiea, Hawaii) and
Rachel Roberts (So., Oregon City, Ore.) paced Pacific offensively with three hits each in the twinbill, with Oshiro delivering a two-run double in the opener. Ashley Garcia, Grace Middelstedt, Lisa Yamamoto, McKenna Spieth and Erin Carson each had two hits to lead Linfield.

The wins moved Linfield to a perfect 14-0, all of which have come in conference games. Pacific dropped to 11-5, 6-5 NWC.

GAME 1: LINFIELD 7, PACIFIC 2
Linfield used an error and two hit batters to open the first before Yamamoto's singled scored Middlestadt and Brosig. Danielle Duman followed with a sacrifice fly that scored Garcia and Carson's single through the right side plated Yamamoto for the 4-0 lead.

Spieth opened scoring for Linfield in the third when her double through the right side scored Alissa Buss and Kenzie Schmoll. Brosig made it a 7-0 advantage when her single scored Spieth.

Pacific got on the board in the fourth when Roberts singled with one out.Â
Quirena Natividad (So., Waipahu, Hawaii) drew a walk before Oshiro drove both home with her long double.

Allie Sims (Fr., Puyallup, Wash.) took the loss for Pacific in the circle, dropping to 7-2 on the season. She allowed seven runs, six earned, on six hits with a walk and two strikeouts in 1.2 innings. Reliever
Maddie Collura (Sr., Phoenix, Ariz.) settled to allow just two hits and five walks, striking out four in 4.1 innings.  Karina Paavola earned the win for Linfield, improving to 8-0 by allowing two runs on three hits with a walk and seven strikeouts in six innings.

Emmie Moser (So., Mt. Vernon, Wash.) led Pacific offensively with two hits each while Gracia and Yamamoto had two hits for the Wildcats.

GAME 2: LINFIELD 10, PACIFIC 1
Becca Moen (Sr., Gresham, Ore.) led off the Pacific first with a triple down the left field line and gave Pacific the 1-0 lead when she scored on Roberts' single.

The bats stayed quiet until the fourth when the Wildcats exploded for their 10-run fourth inning. Carson started things when her one-out double scored Andreotti. Kinney and Spieth followed with one-run singles, Garcia drew a bases loaded walk and Duman cleared the bases with a three-run double to left center field.

Linfield closed the game out in the fifth. Spieth scored one with her single to left center field while Brosig plated two with a single up the middle.

Sara Aasness (Sr., Kirkland, Wash.) fell to 4-3 on the season with the loss, allowing six runs on five hits with four walks and a strikeout in 3.2 innings. Shelby VandeBurgh earned the win for Linfield, improving to 3-0. She allowed one run on four hits with three walks and a strikeout in four innings.

Roberts finished with two hits to lead Pacific at the plate. Middlestadt, Carson and Spieth each had two hits to lead Linfield.

Pacific plays their third doubleheader in five days on Sunday, traveling to Salem to take on Willamette at noon.
