Boxers Swept By Nationally Ranked Stags In SoCal Opener

CLAREMONT, Calif. – No. 3 ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps proved too much for Pacific Tuesday as the Boxers fell to the national-ranked Stags 9-0 in men's tennis action at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center.

"Claremont was a very tough team and we learned a lot from playing them," said Pacific Head Coach
Brian Jackson. "It was nice to see the level that we aspire to achieve in the future."

The Boxers (6-3) proved little match for the Stags (15-1) in the opening doubles matches. Zhenya Pereverzin and Daniel Morkovine opened the afternoon with an 8-0 sweep of
Lorne Bulling (So., Corvallis, Ore.) and
Clark Wininger (Fr., San Francisco, Calif.) in the No. 3 flight. Joe Dorn and Warren Wood followed with an 8-1 win over
Troy Zuroske (Sr., Richland, Wash.) and
Giancarlo Battaglia (Jr., Sherman Oaks, Calif.) at No. 1 while Neel Kotrappa and Skyler Butts was an 8-2 winner over
Brennan Faith (Fr., Redondo Beach, Calif.) and
Grayson Frazier (Jr., La Canada, Calif.) at No. 2.

In singles, Butts opened the flight with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Battaglia in the No. 2 match. Lesster Yeh followed with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Faith at No. 2 and Wood was a 6-1, 6-3 winner over Zuroske at No. 1. Kotrappa followed with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Wininger, Max Macey collected a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Frazier at No. 4 and Glenn Hull pulled through a first-set tiebreaker to take a 7-6 (4), 6-1 win from
Josh Bernstein (Fr., Novato, Calif.) at No. 5.
