Top Of The Lineup Comes Through As Boxers Beat Tigers

LOS ANGELES – Strong performances from the top of the lineup allowed Pacific to snap a seven-match losing streak Tuesday as the Boxers scored a 5-4 victory over Occidental in women's tennis action at the McKinnon Family Tennis Center.
 
Kaitlyn Lomartire (Fr., Portland, Ore.) and Francesca Battaglia (Jr., Sherman Oaks, Calif.) played a key role in the win, capturing victories at the top of both the singles and doubles ladders.  The duo combined to open the doubles with a hard-fought 8-6 victory over Keilani Bonis-Ericksen and Amber Gadsden in the No. 1 match.
 
Lomartire topped the singles ladder with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Bonis-Ericksen in the No. 1 match.  Battaglia followed with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Jesse Hernandez at No. 2.
 
Kelsey Lack (Sr., Grants Pass, Ore.) combined with Carlee Rhodaback (So., Albany, Ore.) to card an 8-4 win over Lucy Malloch and Millie Kreitlow in No. 2 doubles.  Lack then secured the match in singles with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Rene Yu in the No. 6 flight.
 
Hernandez and Isabella Korfmann collected an 8-4 win over Danielle Wicks (So., Phoenix, Ariz.) and Kelly Flores (Fr., Ewa Beach, Hawaii) in No. 3 singles.  Gadsden scored a 6-2, 6-0 singles victory for the Tigers over Rhodaback at No. 3.  Malloch went three sets to beat Wicks at No. 4, 3-6, 6-2, 10-4, while Korfmann was a 6-2, 6-2 winner over Danielle Hunter (Jr., La Quinta, Calif.) at No. 5.
 
With the win, Pacific improved to 2-7 on the season.  Occidental dropped to 1-7.
 
Pacific will finish up their two-match southern California trip on Thursday when they play at Biola.
