FOREST GROVE – Pacific benefitted from both the big inning and clutch hitting in order to secure a doubleheader sweep from Lewis & Clark Sunday in Northwest Conference softball action at Sherman/Larkins Stadium.

In the opener, the Boxers broke the game open with a five-run fifth inning, keyed by two-RBI single by Kylee Oshiro (Jr., Aiea, Hawaii) to go on to the 5-1 victory.  The two teams went extra innings in the nightcap, with Rachel Roberts (So., Oregon City, Ore.) scoring the winning run with her single in the top of the ninth as the Boxers went on to the 3-1 victory.

Kaitlyn Shikada (Jr., Honolulu, Hawaii) led Pacific offensive with four hits while Roberts has three hits.  With the wins, Pacific improved to 14-8, 9-7 NWC.  Lewis & Clark fell to 6-18, 2-13 NWC.

Sunday's games were originally scheduled to be played at Lewis & Clark's Huston Sports Complex, but were moved to Forest Grove due to unplayable field conditions.  Lewis & Clark was the home team on the scoreboard.

GAME 1: PACIFIC 6, LEWIS & CLARK 3
The two teams combined for just four hits in the first four innings before the Boxers broke things open with their five-run fifth inning.  The first two batters reached base and Roberts drew a walk to load the bases.  Quirena Natividad (So., Waipahu, Hawaii) also drew a walk, driving in the opening run before Oshiro singled to right to score Roberts and Becca Moen (Sr., Gresham, Ore.).  The next two runs came home by way of fielder's choices.

The Boxers added a single run in the sixth when Roberts doubled to center field, scoring Kylee Yamamoto (So., Mililani, Hawaii) from second base.

Lewis & Clark got on the board in the bottom of the sixth when Madison Hollenbeck drilled a two-run homer to left center field.  The Pioneers added a single run in the sixth when Kelsey Buck singled and scored on a double by Haley Robinson.

Allie Sims (Fr., Puyallup, Wash.) went the distance to improve to 8-3 on the season.  She allowed three runs on five hits with four walks and a strikeout.  Kalin Rooney took the loss for Lewis & Clark, allowing five runs on five hits with six walks and three strikeouts in 4.2 innings of work.

Shikada led Pacific by going 2 for 4 while Oshiro finished with two RBIs.  Robinson and Hollenbeck each had two hits for Lewis & Clark.

GAME 2: PACIFIC 3, LEWIS & CLARK 1 (9 INNINGS)
Pacific manufactured a run in the third to break open a pitcher's duel between Sara Aasness (Sr., Kirkland, Wash.) and Hollenbeck.  Roberts reached on a one-out single to center field and scored on a long double to right field by Oshiro.  The Pioneers took the run back in bottom of the fourth when Jenai Rojo hit a home run down the left field line that stayed just inside the foul pole.

Pacific left runners in scoring position each of the next three innings and went in order in the eighth before reviving the offense in the top of the ninth.  Shikada led off with single up the middle and advanced to second on Megan Winans' (So., Hood River, Ore.) ground out.  Two batters later, Moen came through with a double to left center that scored Shikada.  Roberts added an insurance run when her single scored Moen.  Aasness then proceeded to retire the Pioneers in order to close the game.

Aasness improved to 6-4 on the season by allowing one run on just four hits, walking one and striking out four.  Hollenbeck dropped to 5-9 with the loss, allowing three runs on seven hits with six walks and four strikeouts.  Roberts and Shikada each had two hits to lead the Boxers while four different players had the Pioneers' hits.

The two teams will complete their four-game series with a pair of games on Monday at Sherman/Larkins Stadium.  First pitched is scheduled for 5 p.m.  As with Sunday's games, Lewis & Clark will be the home team in both games.  A live webcast of the games will be offered at GoBoxers.com.
