Killingbeck Clobbers Loggers In Closing Minutes For Victory

Kacey Killingbeck (Sr., Nampa, Idaho) score three of her team-high four goals in the second half, including the game-winning goal with 8:24 left that gave Pacific a 16-13 win over Puget Sound in women's lacrosse action at Lincoln Park Stadium.

After the Loggers tied the contest at 12-12, Killingbeck tallied on an unassisted goal that started a four-goal run that guaranteed the Boxers the victory. She also closed the run with the Boxers' final goal of the day with 5:46 to go.

In addition to Killingbeck's four goals,
Amy Mayhugh (Jr., Tigard, Ore.) and
April Lanz (Fr., Oregon City, Ore.) each tallied three goals while
Sarah Steele (Fr., Mission Viejo, Calif.) and
Melanie Niehus (jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) scored two goals apiece.

Olivia Keene led Puget Sound (5-8) with four goals. Callie Holgate scored three goals while Maddie Soukup and Sophie Grossman each scored two. Pacific (6-7) outshot the Loggers 40-24, held a 27-20 advantage in ground balls and caused 13 turnovers, led by three caused turnovers by Lanz.

After both teams traded single goals in the first 10 minutes of the contest, Pacific rattled off three unanswered goals and took a 4-1 lead on
Meg Chapman's (Fr., Woodinville, Wash.) goal with 19:12 left in the first half. The Boxers bolted out to a 6-2 lead a pair of Lanz goals before the Loggers slowly climbed back into the game. The Loggers closed the period with the final four goals, with Grossman tallying just as time expired to bring Puget Sound with 9-8 at the half.

Killingbeck and Mayhugh each tallied free-position goals to open the second, but the Loggers scored four of the next five goals. Holgate scored back-to-back goals, with the second hitting the net at the 9:22 mark, to tie the game at 12-12. Killingbeck scored just a minute later, putting the Boxers up for good.Â

Adrienne Salzwedel (Fr., Beaverton, Ore.) earned her sixth win in goal, making nine saves. Hailey Palmore took her seventh loss of the season for the Loggers, making 16 saves.
