Aasness Pitches Another Gem As Boxers Split With Pioneers

Sara Aasness (Sr., Kirkland, Wash.) pitched a complete-game gem for the second straight day while
Rachel Roberts (So., Oregon City, Ore.) hammed out five hits as the Boxers secured a split with Lewis & Clark in Northwest Conference softball action at Sherman/Larkins Stadium.

Aasness threw her second complete-game four hitter in the series as the Boxers went off for five runs in the fourth to take a 6-0 shutout victory in the nightcap. Lewis & Clark, however, took the opener as they made the Boxers run for a fifth error with three runs en route to the 5-3 win.

Roberts came through with a 4 for 4 effort in the second game, which included a run and a RBI and went 1 for 3 in the opener to lead the Boxers offensively.

With the victory, Pacific improved to 15-9 overall, 9-8 NWC. Lewis & Clark dropped to 7-19, 3-13 NWC.

The games were originally scheduled to be played on Saturday, but were postponed due to rain. Additionally, the games were moved from Lewis & Clark's Huston Sports Complex due to unplayable field conditions. As such, Pacific was the visiting team in both contests.

GAME 1: LEWIS & CLARK 5, PACIFIC 3
Pacific opened the game with a pair of singles before
Kylee Oshiro (Jr., Aiea, Hawaii) hit a sacrifice fly to right to score
Becca Moen (Sr., Gresham, Ore.).Â
Ashley Mitchell (So., Redmond, Wash.) followed with a single through the right side that scored Roberts for a 2-0 Pacific lead.

The Pioneers took both runs back in the bottom of the first. L&C also saw the first two batters reach base before Hannah Dal Pra singled through the left side to score Robinson. Rosario later scored on Madison Hollenbeck's sacrifice bunt.

Pacific picked up their third run in the third without the benefit of a hit. Oshiro reached on a fielder's choice and scored when
Megan Winans (So., Hood River, Ore.) reached on an error.Â

Lewis & Clark made the Boxers pay for a two-out error in the fifth. Robinson reached base by way of an error with one out and tied the game as Kelsey Buck scored from third. Dal Pra followed with a two-out single to left center field, scoring Robinson and Buck.

Allie Sims (Fr., Puyallup, Wash.) took the loss for the Boxers, dropping to 8-4 on the season. She allowed five runs, three earned, on seven hits with one walk in 4.2 innings. Hollenbeck earned her sixth win of the season, allowing three runs, two earned, on seven hits with three walks and three strikeouts in the complete game effort.

Moen led the Boxers offensively by going 2 for 4 with a run. Robinson and Dal Pra each went 2 for 3 for the Pioneers.

GAME 2: PACIFIC 6, LEWIS & CLARK 0
Pacific used an error in their favor in the first as Roberts singled, stole second and third and then came home on a Lewis & Clark throwing error.

The Pioneers stranded two runners in both the first and second innings and both teams went quietly in the third before the Boxers exploded for five runs in the fourth. Shikada reached on a fielder's choice and scored when
Kaitlyn Huggins (So., Spokane, Wash.) reached on the Pioneers' second miscue of the game.

Rachel Bachmeier (Fr., Newberg, Ore.) added two runs when her double through the left side scored Huggins and
Kylee Yamamoto (So., Mililani, Hawaii). Moen traded places with Bachmeier with her double up the left side and Roberts scored Moen with a single to the same spot. The Boxers added one run in the seventh when Oshiro singled on a sharply-hit ball to shortstop, scoring Moen.

Aasness (Sr., Kirkland, Wash.) limited the Pioneers' production the rest of the allowing, allowing just one hit over the final four innings of the contest to pick up her seventh win of the season. She allowed the four hits and three walks with three strikeouts. Kalin Rooney took the loss for the Lewis & Clark, allowing six runs, but just one earned, on seven hits with one walk and one strikeout in 3.2 innings.

Roberts led Pacific offensively with her 4 for 4 performance while four different players had Lewis & Clark's hits.

Pacific is back at home for four games this weekend. The Boxers will host Puget Sound on Saturday and Pacific Lutheran on Sunday, with first pitch scheduled for noon both days.
