Men's Tennis Sweeps Singles, Rolls To 8-1 Win Over Whitworth
Box Score
SPOKANE, Wash. – Pacific rebounded from their loss to Whitman on Friday with a dominant performance on Saturday, traveling north to score an 8-1 victory over Whitworth in Northwest Conference men's tennis action at the Scotford Tennis Center.
Â
"This was a good battle for us today," said Pacific Head Coach
Brian Jackson, "and the match was closer than the 8-1 score would suggest. Whitworth is always a tough team at home and we were happy to get out with a win."
Â
The Boxers (4-2, 3-1 NWC) opened the day with wins in two of the three singles matches. The No. 1 duo of
Troy Zuroske (Sr., Richland, Wash.) and
Giancarlo Battaglia (Jr., Sherman Oaks, Calif.) had to come from behind to knock off Drew Brigham and Shane Sandlin, 9-7.
Â
Brennan Faith (Fr., Redondo Beach, Calif.) and
Grayson Frazier (Jr., La Canada, Calif.) added a victory at No. 2, knocking off Troy Patterson and John Tablot 8-2. Whitworth's (3-4, 3-2 NWC) No. 3 tandem of Blake Miller & Matt Goebel gave the Pirates their only victory of the day, scoring an 8-4 win over
Alen Suklje (Jr., Beaverton, Ore.) and Rueben Mulhern (Fr., Boise, Idaho).
Â
Pacific prevailed in a trio of three-set battles. At No. 1., Battaglia came back from a tiebreaker loss in the first set to win a third set tiebreaker for the 6-7, 6-1, 7-6 victory over Brigham. In the No. 4 flight, Frazier swept the third set to take away a 6-3, 4-6, 6-0 win over Miller.Â
