Top Of The Ladder Holds Strong In Close Loss To College of Idaho

FOREST GROVE – Pacific received solid victories from their top three singles players Saturday, but the College of Idaho got the job done in the lower half of the lineup to take a 5-4 victory from the Boxers in women's tennis action at the Holce Tennis Courts.

After falling behind 2-1 in doubles, the Boxers saw their top players come through to keep the team in the match.Â
Kaitlyn Lomartire (Fr., Portland, Ore.) continued her impressive start to her freshman season, scoring a 6-0, 6-0 shutout of Shae Stults in the No. 1 flight.Â
Francesca Battaglia (Jr., Sherman Oaks, Calif.) followed up with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Emily Tesnohlidek at No. 2.Â
Carlee Rhodaback (So., Albany, Ore.) then added a 6-4, 6-3 win over Tanya Greenwood at No. 3.

The Coyotes, however, surged in the lower three matches to take their first team win of the season. Allie Boyd captured a 6-1, 6-1 win over
Danielle Wicks (So., Phoenix, Ariz.) at No. 4. Cassie Low followed with a 6-4, 6-2 win over
Kelly Flores (Fr., Ewa Beach, Hawaii) at No. 5 and Emilee Chapman provided a 6-3, 6-3 win over
Danielle Hunter (Jr., La Quinta, Calif.) at No. 6.

Lomartire and Battaglia provided for the Boxers' lone win in the doubles, taking an 8-6 decision from Tesnohlidek and Boyd at No. 1. Stults and Greenwood scored an 8-5 win over Rhodaback and
Kelsey Lack (Sr., Grants Pass, Ore.) at No. 2 while Low and Chapman were 8-1 winners over Wicks and Flores at No. 3.

Pacific dropped to 1-5 overall with the loss, while the College of Idaho improved to 1-5.

Pacific will complete a four-match home stand on Friday, hosting Lewis & Clark at 4 p.m., before taking to the road to play at Willamette on Saturday.
