Boxers Blank Linfield Again To Complete Series Sweep
Box ScoreFOREST GROVE – A complete turnover in the singles lineup did little to slow down Pacific on Friday as the Boxers rolled to their second consecutive sweep of Linfield, 9-0, in Northwest Conference men's tennis action at the Holce Tennis Courts.
"We were able to play some new matchup and it worked out well as we won everything handily," said Pacific Head Coach
Brian Jackson. "We also tried some new doubles teams, as we had guys in class and with exams."
Giancarlo Battaglia (Jr., Sherman Oaks, Calif.), playing in his first match in two weeks due to injury, paired with
Brennan Faith (Fr., Redondo Beach, Calif.) to score an 8-4 win in No. 1 doubles over Lukas Kleinman and Kelsey Rosborough.
Alen Suklje (Jr., Beaverton, Ore.) and
Grayson Frazier (Jr., La Canada, Calif.) also had an 8-4 win over Micah Roos and Tim Hawkins at No. 2 while
Lorne Bulling (So., Corvallis, Ore.) and
Jason Voss (Jr., Jamul, Calif.) secured the doubles sweep with an 8-1 victory over Alec Wisthoff and Nick Konen at No. 3.
Battaglia re-assumed his No. 1 position in singles with little stress, taking the 6-2, 6-1 win over Roos. Faith scored his team-leading ninth win of the season with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Rosborough at No. 2 and
Josh Bernstein (Fr., Novato, Calif.) was a 6-0, 6-0 winner over Kleinman at No. 3.
Frazier added a 6-3, 6-1 win over Hawkins at No. 4.
Clark Wininger (Fr., San Francisco, Calif.) was a 6-1, 6-0 winner over Wisthoff at No. 5 and
Ben Ryweck (So., Port Townsend, Wash.) was a 6-4, 6-1 winner over Konen at No. 6.
With the victory, Pacific improved to 11-3 overall, 8-1 NWC. Linfield dropped to 0-11, 0-9 NWC. Pacific returns to action on Sunday, traveling south to face Willamette at noon
