Game 2 Box Score NEWBERG, Ore. – Pacific may have had a slow start to the day, but they finished their last regular season in style.
After losing the opener 3-0, the Boxers battled back with an 8-3 win over George Fox in the nightcap of their Northwest Conference doubleheader at Morse Field.
Quirena Natividad (So., Waipahu, Hawaii) had another big day for the Boxers. She finished the day with three hits and one run.
Kylee Oshiro (Jr., Aiea, Hawaii) also had another strong outing, finishing the day with two hits, one RBI and one run.
After picking up one stolen base today,
Rachel Roberts (So., Oregon City, Ore.) has finished the regular season with 45 stolen bases, adding to her school record and NCAA Division III leading total.
With the split, Pacific finished the regular season in second place in the NWC at 19-9, 24-10 overall. The Boxers will open the NWC Tournament on Friday at Linfield's Del Smith Field against No. 3 seed Whitworth. George Fox, who were eliminated from the NWC playoffs by virtue of Pacific's doubleheader sweep on Saturday, finished at 24-16, 13-15 NWC.
GAME 1: GEORGE FOX 3, PACIFIC 0
George Fox would end up scoring all of the runs they needed in the second. Courtney Howard led off with a home run. With two outs, the inning looked like it was over, but Kat Hylton then hit a triple to center field that scored Becca Olson. Hylton then scored off a double by Kayla Anderson.
In the seventh inning, the Boxers had a head of steam after Oshiro drew a leadoff walk.
Emmie Moser (So., Mt. Vernon, Wash.) then hit a double to left field, putting runners in scoring position with no outs. But on the next at-bat,
Nalani Antonio (So., Kapolei, Hawaii) flied out to left field for an apparent sacrifice fly, but pinch-runner
Jordan Schmerbauch (Fr., Mililani, Hawaii) was called out for laving third base early.
Margaret Bachmeier then hit a pop fly that ended the game.
Erin Hento earned the win after pitching a complete game four-hitter. She also had one walk and four strikeouts.
Allie Sims (Fr., Puyallup, Wash.) got the loss on the game after giving up five hits and three runs, one earned. She also had two walks and four strikeouts.
GAME 2: PACIFIC 8, GEORGE FOX 3
In the second game, the Boxers had a much easier time finding offense. To start the contest,
Becca Moen (Sr., Gresham, Ore.) scored off a fielding error to give the Boxers the 1-0 lead.
In the third inning, Oshiro scored after Moen grounded out. Roberts then scored scored off a throwing error that opened the Boxers' lead to 3-0.
In the fourth inning, Moen singled up the middle of the field, which scored
Kiera Melton (Jr., Pleasanton, Calif.) and increased the score to 4-0.
In the top of the fifth inning,
Megan Winans (So., Hood River, Ore.) grounded out to score Natividad.
Kaitlyn Shikada (Jr., Honolulu, Hawaii) grounded out to score
Kylee Yamamoto (So., Mililani, Hawaii) and again increase the Boxers' lead to 6-0.
In the top of the seventh inning, Winans doubled to left field, scoring Oshiro. Winans then scored after Shikada singled out to center field to give the Boxers an astounding 8-0 lead over the Bruins to start the bottom of the seventh inning.
The Bruins were able to find some momentum, but it was too little too late. In the bottom of the seventh inning Baylee Westrick hit a two-run homerun that scored Megan Furtado. Hento then scored after Hylton grounded out to second. The comeback was too little too late, however as the Boxes took the game 8-3.
Sara Aasness (Sr., Kirkland, Wash.) earned the win for the Boxers, improving to 12-4 on the season. She allowed three runs, two earned, on six hits and seven strikeouts. Allyssa DenDekker got the loss after giving up 12 hits and eight runs, five earned. She also had five strikeouts and one walk.
