Boxers Drop Season Finale to Whitman

FOREST GROVE – With another win in the Boxers' regular season finale, Kaitlyn Lomartire (Fr., Portland, Ore.) has finished her spectacular freshman season as a Boxer with a 12-4 record in the singles.
 
But despite her fantastic effort Saturday, the Boxers lost their match to Northwest Conference regular season champion and No. 27 ranked Whitman, 8-1, in the Boxers' women's tennis season finale at the Holce Tennis Courts.

Despite dropping their regular season finale, assistant coach Justin Carrier is proud of his women's team. "All in all, despite the fact we took an 8-1 loss, I was happy with how we stacked up competitively with Whitman," Carrier said. "It's always a privilege to play a nationally ranked team and I think we conducted ourselves admirably."
 
In the No. 1 flight singles, Lomrartire had another hard fought match but she managed to outlast Erin Bell in a 6-4, 5-7, 10-3 bout. And in the No. 1 flight doubles, Lomartire and Kelsey Lack (Sr., Grants Pass, Ore.) lost a close 8-6 match to Bell and Katrina Allick.
 
In the No. 2 flight doubles, the tandem of Carlee Rhodaback (So., Albany, Ore.) and Danielle Wicks (So., Phoenix, Ariz.) lost 8-2 to Hannah Palkowitz and Allie Wallin. And in the No. 3 flight doubles, Danielle Hunter (Sr., La Quinta, Calif.) and Kelly Flores (Fr.,Waipahu, Hawaii) dropped a tough match to Seana Minuth and Olivia Bates 8-4.
 
In the No. 2 flight singles, Rhodabacklost 6-0, 6-0 to Wallin. In the No. 3 flight, Wicks lost to Allick 6-1, 6-1. Lack was unable to overcome Palkowitz in a 6-0, 6-1 loss in the No. 4 flight. In the No. 5 flight Hunter lost to Bates 6-3, 6-3. And in the No. 6 flight, Flores lost 6-2, 6-0 to Maggie Eismeier.
 
The Boxers finish their season with a 2-14, 0-12 conference record.
