Wildcats Pose Little Problems For Boxers In 9-0 Blanking

McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Pacific ran their win streak to five matches in convincing fashion Saturday as the Boxers their second straight 9-0 sweep, this time to Linfield in Northwest Conference Men's Tennis action at the Linfield Tennis Center.
 
The Boxers survived a pair of close doubles matches, closing the flights with a 3-0 lead before cruising their way through the singles matches to win their fifth straight against NWC opponents.
 
"It was another solid victory today as we were once able to use our depth and get some guys some experience," said Pacific Head Coach Brian Jackson.  "Although it wasn't our best tennis today, I was really happy with the result."
 
Brennan Faith (Fr., Redondo Beach, Calif.) and Grayson Frazier (Jr., La Canada, Calif.) played up one flight at No. 1 doubles and had to fight to get past Lukas Kleinman and Kelsey Rosborough, improving to 9-3 and 2-0 in No. 1 matches with an 8-6 victory.
 
Josh Bernstein (Fr., Novato, Calif.) and Clark Wininger (Fr., San Francisco, Calif.) also battled in their No. 2 match with Miach Roos and Tim Hawkins, but came through for a 9-7 victory to improve to 2-0 as a tandem.  Alen Suklje (Jr., Beaverton, Ore.) and Reuben Mulhern (Fr., Boise, Idaho) had the easiest of the three doubles flight, taking an 8-0 blanking from Alec Wisthoff and Nick Konen at No. 3.
 
Troy Zuroske (Sr., Richland, Wash.) improved to 7-5 on the season in singles, dispatching Roos at No. 1, 6-1, 6-4.  Lorne Bulling (So., Corvallis, Ore.) rebounded from a one-set deficit to Rosborough to score the three-set win at No. 2, 4-6, 6-1, 10-6.
 
Suklje claimed a 6-3, 6-3 win from Kleinman at No. 3 while Mulhern collected a 6-1, 6-0 win over Hawkins at No. 4.  Jason Voss (Jr., Jamul, Calif.) earned his second singles victory at Pacific with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Wisthoff at No. 5 while Wesley Upton (Fr., Hillsboro, Ore.) won his first collegiate singles match, scoring a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Nick Konen.
 
With the victory, Pacific improved to 10-3 overall, 7-1 NWC.  Linfield dropped to 0-9, 0-7 NWC.  Pacific and Linfield will engage in a rematch on Friday at the Holce Tennis Courts.
