Boxers Battle, But Cannot Best Rival Wildcats

FOREST GROVE - An injury riddled Pacific women's tennis team was unable to come out with the win this afternoon against the Linfield Wildcats. Missing several key starters, the Boxers fell to the Wildcats 8-1 at the Holce Tennis Courts.

Assistant Coach Justin Carrier said that the Boxers battled the Wildcats, and that his squad is "looking forward to getting some rematches next friday at [Linfield's] place."

In the No.1 flight of women's doubles, Kaitlyn Lomartire (Fr., Portland, Ore.) and Kelsey Lack (Sr., Grants Pass, Ore.) lost 8-6 in a tough fought match to Caroline Brigham and Mackenzie Fraser. This was only Lomartire and Lack's second outing as a doubles team.

In the No. 2 flight, the duo of Danielle Wicks (So., Phoenix, Ariz.) and Kelly Flores (Fr., Ewa Beach, Hawaii) lost 8-0 to the team of Marisa Kume and Kaila Nip. In the No.3 flight, Danielle Hunter (Sr., La Quinta, Calif.) and Esbeida Ramos took a 8-2 loss to the team of Gretchen Jernstedt and Courtney Mostul. 

In the singles, Lomartire continued a very successful freshman campaign with a 6-4, 5-7 (10-5) win over Brigham. With the win, Lomartire is 9-3 on the season in singles matches.

In the No. 2 flight, Wicks lost 6-0, 6-0 to Nip. In the No. 3 flight, Lack lost a very hard fought match, falling 6-5, 6-4 to Kume. Flores lost 6-1, 6-2 to Jernstedt in the No. 4 flight. In the No. 5 flight, Hunter lost to Fraser 6-1, 6-2 and in the No. 6 flight, Ramos lost to Mostul 6-2, 6-0.

With the loss, Pacific fell to 2-10, 0-8 NWC, while Linfield improved to 8-2, 5-2 NWC.  Pacific's next action will be on Apr. 11, where the Boxers will take on Linfield in McMinnville.
