Three Boxers End Their Track Season At West Coast Invite
Meet ResultsSALEM, Ore. – A trio of Pacific track and field athletes saw their seasons come to a close, and two put an end to their college careers, with performances at the West Coast Invitational on Thursday at Willamette University's Charles Bowles Track.
Kelson Kawai (Sr., North Kohala, Hawaii) placed second in the men's high jump, but failed to improve on his season best mark with a final leap of 6 feet, 4.75 inches. While not qualifying for the NCAA Division III Championships, Kawai finishes his career as a two-time All-Northwest Conference performer in the event and the Pacific co-record holder.
Likewise, Travis George (Sr., Grants Pass, Ore.) saw his career end with a second place finish in the men's hammer. In his fourth meet in six days, George threw 163 feet, 3 inches. George leaves Pacific as the school record holder in the event, having thrown 171 feet, 5 inches, at the NWC Championships on Apr. 25.
Lisa Martin (So., Gresham, Ore.) was Pacific's only women's competitor and just missed a season best in the 5,000 meters. In a race dominated by Division I competition, Martin finished 15th with a time of 18:30.90. She was just a half-second off of her season best.
Pacific now prepares for the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships, which take place May 22-24 at Ohio Wesleyan University's George Gauthier Track in Delaware, Ohio. Tyler Shipley (So., Forest Grove, Ore.) is looking to qualify in two events. He currently ranks No. 14 in the men's 10,000 meters and No. 19 in the men's 5,000 meters.
