Pacific/Mills Box ScoreOAKLAND, Calif. – After losing their opening match of their Bay Area trip in three sets, Pacific closed out the trip with two convincing wins Saturday, scoring a pair of three-set victories over Caltech and Mills in volleyball action at Haas Gymnasium.

The Boxers allowed Caltech just six kills in the entire match while hitting .423 on their own in a three-set sweep of the Beavers, 25-8, 25-6, 25-11. It was much the same story in the second match as Pacific allowed host Mills just 10 kills while hitting .483 to post their second sweep, 25-13, 25-11, 25-8.

Claire Sporer (Fr., Medford, Ore.) led the way for Pacific with nine kills in the two matches.Â
Haley Bedell (Jr., Bothell, Wash.) had eight kills in the Mills match while
Marie Rewick (So., Honolulu, Hawaii), playing in her first match since her 2013 injury, had six kills in the Caltech match.

With the victories, Pacific will enter the Northwest Conference season with a 4-4 record.

PACIFIC DEF. CALTECH 25-8, 25-6, 25-11Bedell set the pace from the service line in the first set against Caltech, helping Pacific to a 7-0 lead with four aces. The Boxers made it a 17-7 lead on a block by
Hannah Smargiassi (Jr., Tualatin, Ore.) and
Hannah Herbert (Jr., Hillsboro, Ore.). Pacific held the 18-8 advantage when the Boxers finished out with seven straight points, two on kills by Rewick.

Pacific cruised in the second set, opening up the 8-1 lead on a kill by
Lauren Goss (So., Los Angeles, Calif.). But it was
Emily Farnham (Jr., University Place, Wash.) gave Pacific the win, serving Pacific to 12 straight points, including six services aces, as the Boxers rolled to the 25-6 win.

Caltech opened the third set by taking the 3-0 lead, but the advantage would not last long. Pacific took the lead back at 5-4 on
Kelly Wahl's (Fr., Richland, Wash.) kill before
Jamie Steach (So., Pasco, Wash.) served Pacific to five straight points, four off service aces, for the 18-9 lead. Caltech would score only two more points as Pacific picked up the victory.

Rewick led Pacific in her return with six kills while Goss added five kills. Farnham finished with 13 assists and six of the Boxers' 20 service aces. Catherine Jamshidi led Caltech with three kills.

PACIFIC DEF. MILLS 25-13, 35-11, 25-8Mills opened the match with a 3-0 lead thanks to three service aces by Emma Baumeister and built to a 6-2 lead on a Pacific attack error. The Boxers roared back behind the serve of Steach, taking the 9-8 lead by Herbert and went ahead 12-8 on a service ace. The lead was 18-13 when the Boxers won the final six points to win the set.

Pacific used a pair of runs to pull away in the second set. The Boxers went ahead 6-1 on a Mills attack error before scoring eight straight points, five on Mills' attack errors, to take the 18-6 advantage and move on to the win. The Boxers won the first 12 points of the third set to cruise to the victory and the sweep.

Bedell led Pacific with eight kills. Sporer added six kills while
Una Areta (So., Kent, Wash.( had five kills.  Steach finished with 12 assists and four aces while
Lia Zablan (So., Ewa Beach, Hawaii) had 14 digs. Brittany Docherty led Mills with four kills.

Pacific opens the NWC season next weekend, traveling to George Fox on Friday before hosting Lewis & Clark on Saturday.
