Box ScoreNEWBERG, Ore. – Double-doubles by
Emily Farnham (Jr., University Place, Wash.) and
Hannah Herbert (Jr., Hillsboro, Ore.) were not enough to carry Pacific in their Northwest Conference volleyball Friday night as the Boxers lost to the Bruins in four sets, 25-23, 24-26, 25-19, 25-14, at the Wheeler Sports Center.
Â
Farnham finished the evening with 35 assists and 11 digs, notching her second double-double of the season. Herbert, meanwhile, had her first of the season while finishing with season highs of 11 kills and 12 digs to go along with four blocks.Â
Haley Bedell (Jr., Bothell, Wash.), the reigning NWC Volleyball Student-Athlete of the Week, led Pacific with 13 kills.
Â
The efforts were not enough to neutralize a night that saw Pacific (4-5, 0-1 NWC) hit .056 for the match while the Bruins (2-9, 1-0 NWC) hit .152 on the evening, including .275 in the deciding frame. Erin Campbell led George Fox with a double-double of 13 kills and 11 digs while Delaney Cruz finished with 12 kills.
Â
After George Fox opened the first set with the lead, Pacific came back to take an 11-6 advantage on a kill by
Hannah Smargiassi (Jr., Tualatin, Ore.). The Bruins held firm, tying the frame at 14-14 on Kylee Adderson's kills and going up 17-14 on a block by Erin Sprowls. Pacific tied it again at 17-17 on an attack error, but three errors fueled a five-point run that put the Bruins up 22-17. Pacific rallied back to within 24-23 before an attack error handed the Bruins the win.
Â
Pacific jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the second set, thanks in part to a pair of Bedell aces. A pair of attack errors improved the advantage to 17-11, but would have to hold on to earn the victory. The Bruins tied the frame at 23-23 before a service error forced extra points.Â
Una Areta (So., Kent, Wash.) finally closed it out with a block that gave the Boxers the victory.
Â
The third and fourth sets proved to be all Bruins. George Fox took an 11-7 lead in the third set and went up 19-12 on a kill by Erin Dellinger. Pacific would come no closer than five points the rest of the set. Pacific had an early 3-0 lead in the fourth, but the Bruins came right back to take the 5-3 advantage on a Campbell kill. A five-set run later in the set, fueled by two Cruz kills, proved to be the difference for the win.
Â
Pacific returns home to the Stoller Center for the first time in three weeks on Saturday, hosting Lewis & Clark at 7 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at GoBoxers.com.
