NEWBERG, Ore. – Kara Lankey (So., La Canada, Calif.) netted her second game-winner of the season Saturday, breaking open a close match with George Fox en route to a 2-0 shutout of the Bruins in Northwest Conference women's soccer action at the Austin Sports Complex.

Both of Pacific's goals came in the second half, responding to a first half that head coach Morgan Joseph described as tentative.  "We talked at halftime about playing with more convention," Joseph said.  "The girls responded well in the second half and we saw glimpses of their true potential."

After the scoreless first half, Lankey came through with her fourth goal of the season in the 50th minute, taking a feed from McKenna Davidson (Jr., Kailua Kona, Hawaii) into the middle box and into the net.

Davidson, meanwhile, connected on her second goal of the season in the 86th minute, catching the Bruins' defense off guard off a crossing pass from Lankey.

Joseph credited both players with good looks at the goal and also gave a nod to the defense for their work in keeping the Bruins off the scoreboard.  "Kara and MeKenna showed that they can be one of the dangerous attacking duos in the conference," Joseph said.  "At the same time, we had a solid performance from Kristina Morris and goal and Morgan McClincy on the back line to keep them scoreless."

The match proved tight throughout, with Pacific holding an 18-16 advantage in shots, with the Boxers putting 12 shots on goal.  Pacific also held an 8-4 edge in corner kicks.

Kristina Morris (So., Molalla, Ore.) earned her third win of the season in goal and her second shutout, making a season high nine saves.  Ally Swanson made 10 stops in the loss for George Fox.

Pacific finishes up the weekend on Sunday, play at noon against Pacific Lutheran.
