Box Score

TACOMA, Wash. – Puget Sound scored three goals in the first 12 minutes of the match and limited Pacific to just two shots Saturday as the Loggers posted a 3-0 shutout of the Boxers in both teams' Northwest Conference men's soccer season opener at Baker Stadium.

Sean Ryan opened scoring for the Loggers just 77 seconds into the match, finishing off well-placed crossing passes by Nick Campanelli and Andrew White.  White then scored for himself in the ninth minute, tallying on a crossing pass from Conner LaFerriere that he slotted into the back post.

Landon Gauthier gave Puget Sound 3-0 lead in the 12th minute, hitting his shot into the right upper hand corner off of White's second assist of the afternoon.

The early scoring was all that was needed in a match that saw the defenses dominate play.  Puget Sound took only six more shots outside of that first 12 minutes and outshot the Boxers 10-2.  Puget Sound also held a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Leyton Thommasen (Fr., Des Moines, Wash.) saw his record drop to 3-3-0 with the loss, making five saves.  Nathan King made two stops to earn the win for Puget Sound.

Pacific dropped to 3-3-0, 0-1-0 NWC, while Puget Sound improved to 4-2-1, 1-0-0 NWC.  Pacific will try to even up their conference record on Sunday as they finish their road trip at Pacific Lutheran.
