EUGENE, Ore. – Pacific engaged Northwest Christian in two close sets Wednesday, but came up just short in both before the Beacons ran way in the third for a three-set sweep of the Boxers, 25-22, 25-22, 25-14, in volleyball action at the Morse Event Center.

Pacific (2-3) led in the first set, only to see the Beacons put together a nine-point run to win it, and the Beacons held off a five-point Pacific rally to get back in the second. Momentum belonged to the Beacons in the third set as the Boxers hit into 13 attack errors.

Una Areta (So., Kent, Wash.) led Pacific with 12 kills and a .182 hitting percentage.Â
Haley Bedell (Jr., Bothell, Wash.) added eight kills.Â
Emily Farnham (Jr., University Place, Wash.) had 24 assists and
Lia Zablan (So., Ewa Beach, Hawaii) finished with 14 digs. Pacific hit .052 as a team.

Chandler Gabrio led Northwest Christian with 13 kills, four aces and five blocks, while Chelsea McGowan added 10 kills and a .429 hitting percentage. Alyssa Dorr had 24 assists and Chloe Davis finished with 14 digs.

After Northwest Christian (2-0) opened up a 6-3 lead in the opening set, the Boxers rebounded to tie the frame at 10-10 and then made it a 12-10 lead on a pair of
Hannah Herbert (Jr., Hillsboro, Ore.) kills. The frame was again tied at 15-15 when the Boxers won six straight points, two on
Claire Sporer (Fr., Medford, Ore.) service aces, to give Pacific a 20-15 lead.

Just as quickly, the Beacons came back with a nine-point run of their own that all but closed out the set. Gabrio had four kills in the run, including the spike that gave Northwest Christian a 24-20 lead before Kayla Ping closed out the frame.

Another long run gave the Beacons control, with Gabrio closing the run with a kill that gave the home team a 14-7 lead. Northwest Christian were close to closing out at 23-16 when the Boxers put some heat on with a five-point run.Â
Kelly Wahl (Fr., Richland, Wash.) had a kill and two blocks to bring the Boxers within 23-21, but Gabrio had a block of her own to win it for the Beacons.

The two teams combined for just 13 kills in the third set, but the Beacons had six aces and forced 13 Pacific attack errors to run away with the match. Four errors and two Katie Reeder aces fueled a seven-point run that put the Beacons up 12-6 and three Gabrio aces made it a 17-8 frame. Pacific scored just five more points the rest of the way.

Pacific will close their non-conference season with three matches in the Bay Area. The Boxers will be at UC Santa Cruz on Friday before engaging Caltech and Mills on Saturday in Oakland, Calif.
